Underage/RPF Clarification

We’ve had a huge influx of people to SquidgeWorld in the last week or so, and it seems to come down to an incident at AO3 with underage fics.  This email is to respond to the half a dozen emails/trouble tickets that we’ve gotten asking us to clarify our stance on the issue.  Even though it’s explicitly stated in the SqWA Posting Help section, we’re pointing it out here, word-for-word.

Point 1 – Use of the Underage tag: The SquidgeWorld Archive does allow Underage fanworks to be added to the archive.
Point 2 – Use of the Underage tag with respect to fic ratings: Any fic that features the Underage tag and where the rating is Mature or Explicit, that fic must be locked to Archive users only. No exceptions.
Point 3 – Use of RPF tag: The SquidgeWorld Archives does allow Real People Fiction – RPF – to be added to the archive.
Point 4 – Underage/RPF tags on the same fic: If a user adds an Underage fic that is about RPF – Real Person Fiction – that fic must be locked to Archive users only. No exceptions.  NOTE: This rule is new, added in response to this very situation.

While some people may not agree, this is our stance.  We refuse to become gatekeepers of those who use the site; we will never tell you what you can and cannot post to the archive.  However, we want to make sure that people who use the archive and do not want to see those works are not inadvertently exposed to them.  This is why we have our locking policy in place.  If it’s in the archive and meets the above points, locking must be completed appropriately.  And if it is not—and a recent quick check showed that people are not always respecting this rule—the locking will be done for you by the admins.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask them.  But if you just want to sit back behind an anonymous keyboard and call us names, that’s fine. We just don’t need to know about it; don’t send us a note to let us know you’re calling us an asshole somewhere on the Interwebs. People already do this, and it’s tiring.

  1. are you serious? i wanted to migrate to squidgeworld specifically because i didn’t want incidents like that to be repeated here. you do understand it’s not a matter of “icky things people don’t like” and “creative freedom”, it’s a matter of crossing the bounds of fiction into reality and causing harm to real individual children who are alive and have that content made about them? locking it is just a bandaid solution because you don’t want to take actual responsibility.

i like squidgeworld’s tagging system a lot better than ao3’s, but i really see no good reason to keep using it now if the policy is essentially the same thing just wrapped up in a trenchcoat.

  2. are you serious? i wanted to migrate to squidgeworld specifically to avoid this issue. why would i ever use it over ao3 when your policies are just the same thing wrapped up in a trenchcoat? you can’t just slap a bandaid over the issue of underage rpf of children and pretend you’ve fixed everything. locking it behind a signup and acting like that means it’s fine now isn’t a solution, it’s just refusing to take responsibility.

i am not pro-censorship in the slightest, but there are boundaries on certain things for a reason. once you cross the line from fiction to reality and start writing material about real life children, it’s no longer an issue about censorship and moreso an issue about basic morality. i just want an archive with an actual backbone.

    1. “i am not pro-censorship in the slightest” -> proceeds to demand censorship (on an archive someone else made themselves)

“i just want an archive with an actual backbone.” -> make your own?

      1. have fun jerking your dick off to real kids then. do you think csam should be allowed to exist freely for all to see under the name of “no censorship”? do you think the internet should be a lawless land where getting your dick wet takes priority over basic human morals? do you think any normal website should just let people publically post their sexual fantasies about real individual children? most normal websites will ban those people, because some things have restrictions for a reason. that’s because they cause legitimate harm.

i don’t think anyone’s inherently a pedophile or predator when it comes to lolicon or shotacon, that’s within the realm of fiction as long as it doesn’t involve real people. however, you guys are definitely enabling legitimate predatory behavior and defending it for literally no reason. get the cum out of your brain for 5 seconds and maybe you’ll understand how utterly deranged you sound for playing defense for predators without batting an eye. real children are not fiction.

        1. you have hilariously missed the point of this post. genuinely go make your own site with this software and go see how hard it is. please, just do it so we can laugh at you, genuinely. getting otw-a up and running is hard enough only for absolute jackasses like you to come in with your entitlement acting as if the moderation side isn’t even harder. and don’t come begging to the 4 of us for help when you need basic linux help because we all know you now and how much of a fool of yourself you’ve made here.

on my own site, i have had to ban people for posting underage content that breaks my rules. i have dealt with people like you cursing me out for not allowing the things you find reprehensible. i cannot believe you think it is okay to publicly insult a site admin who is putting themself at risk by hosting your god awful fanfiction.

for a person that seems to love reading, you sure as shit can’t read because this entire post is about how squidgeworld has restrictions against this very content.

instead of getting piss angry like a whining child over the decisions of an admin running a site out of their own pocket (only for people like you to shit on, as if you have any say), go make your own site. genuinely, i need the laugh. i want to see a dipshit like you flounder at achieving what walter and i have done.

you do not know walter (or even me) and the shit that he has been through by sticking his neck out for people like you. did you know that squidge images had a CSEM attack? did you know that at all, or did you discover squidgeworld through a tweet three days ago and decide to lose your god damn mind over someone else’s site? food for thought.

fuck off back to twitter you piece of shit lmao

        2. how DARE you come to an independent site owner and accuse them of all these legitimate horrific crimes? squidgeworld has more restrictions on this than ao3 does. it ensures that the subjects of rpf can NEVER come across it unless they specifically have an account on there. you are acting utterly entitled, obnoxious, and, well, like a bratty twelve year old. you want a site that bans it? go fucking make one yourself. do it! it’s fucking HARD. i did it and it took me months. MONTHS. but if you’re genuinely dedicated to having a site like this, DO IT YOUR DAMN SELF. And see how fun it is to run a website when everyone acts entitled to your time, energy, and action 24 fucking 7. The admin of this site is so kind, and you are treating him reprehensibly. Like Melo said, it is a RISK to run a fanfiction site of Any kind. We run them because we have a passion. What do you have? Empty mean words you probably typed on your Bark Phone? Be so for real

        3. Wow. You’re an absolute creep. You know what’s a statistical fact? People like you, who accuse other people of the things that they’re guilty of themselves. What exactly are YOU doing that you’re so obsessed with fucking children? How many kids have you groomed by pretending to ‘protect’ them, Kris? I bet more than one. That’s what people like you do: You find vulnerable populations and set yourself up as a safe person so you can get close to them.

          1. And you call THAT projection? You made up a whole fanfiction here about a stranger grooming kids. At least have some self awareness??

          2. dude im not the one writing porn about children. accusing me of being a groomer because i dont want to jerk off to real life(!!) children sure is something lol what are *you* trying to hide? you’re the one defending smut of real kids.

let me propose a hypothetical: if you were on a website like twitter, what would you do if you saw someone posting their sexual fantasies about a child celebrity? they don’t use images, but they’re still talking about how they’d like to molest that child in full view of everyone, enabling other predators to flock to their account and do the same. if you saw something like that, you’d obviously report the account, right? you’d report it to twitter (or whatever site it’s on), and additionally you might even report the account to the authorities themselves. that is the right thing to do in that situation.

what makes it any different when it’s on a fanfiction site? no, seriously. sit me down, stop whining over fiction or how kind and benevolent you are or whatever, and explain what makes writing smut about real kids is different from those nasty people who post their fantasies online. what about people in those private discords who get called out and exposed for saying inappropriate shit about minors? even if they did it in “private”, you still naturally understand that those things are wrong, right?

those people are rightfully condemned, so why should we be giving them a platform to swarm to when they get kicked out from normal spaces? all you’re doing is giving them full reign to flock to each other and enable each other’s perversions. how do you think those predatory communities and discords form?

i just… genuinely why are you defending your right to platform people who want to fuck legit children. like, this is not even in the realm of anti-contact pedophiles (whatever your stance on that debate may be), by writing porn of a real child they have already violated that boundary and have caused harm. you cannot even place this in the realm of “thoughtcrime”, the thoughts are out of the damn head, and not nipping it in the bud just enables them! can you comprehend how violating it would be for the child in that situation? does it really make a difference if it’s behind the pitiful “wall” of a signup? it’s still wrong. it’s not any different than those discords for predators – private, but still wrong nonetheless.

you do not care about children. you do not care about safety. you do not even care about the censorship you so valiantly fight against. you care about fanfiction alone. your brain has been so rotted by stupid proship/anti discourse that you’ve ironically swung right into the same mindset of antis – you care more about pixels than the rights and feelings of human people.

your brain has been eaten away by your obsessions, and you have forgotten your humanity. i hope you can change and grow as a person someday. all of you.

        4. dude can you stop replying here because we genuinely do not give a fuck about you or your opinions. begone!!!!! do something worthwhile!! shoo!

    2. These incompetent fools accepted a known pedophile and child predator on their site, worrior_studios, after Ao3 understandably banned this dangerous individual. If that’s the kind of community they’re find with fostering then that’s their choice. Don’t bother.

  3. I had a feeling you would get attacked over this. Funny, I’m pretty sure this isn’t the first time ppl get outraged over Ao3’s content on social media, decide to move in doves to others places, then get mad said place either allow such content or won’t allow them in.

  4. Don’t think ‘must be locked’ was a rule before for fictional underage; only ‘strongly recommended’. For widespread compliance, might wanna make a front page post about it. Doubt many people are gonna read the help text on their own, or read the header link if they think it’s just about the downloading issue.
