Please note & share about upcoming changes to Squidge Image Hosting
- Image hosting will go down for approximately 30 minutes at 12Noon Pacific time today. This means everything – you cannot sign up, you cannot upload images, you cannot look at an image URL. Images that are embedded elsewhere like AO3 or SqWA will not work during this timeperiod.
- When Image Hosting comes back up, there should be no changes to the end-users. What we’re doing is all behind the scenes.
- Once back up, it will mean everything is back to normal.
That said, we’re making one additional change to Image Hosting that only applies to people without Image Hosting accounts, and that is, we’re limiting the account creation to only 8 hours a day; 10am to 2pm Pacific time, and 10pm to 2am Pacific time. We’re not Imgur or other big hosts that have ads with terabytes of data to give away. We still only took in $3,000 in donations last year. That’s hardly a drop in the bucket for sites like AO3/OTW who can make up that in donations in an hour. And we’re not a public company that can go into debut to finance our growth. We’re tiny, doing this with volunteers, and usually funds for new machines, disk arrays and such come out of a donor’s pocket.
IF you DO have a Squidge Image Hosting account, you will only be affected by the 30 minute downtime today, Sunday May 17th, at 12PM Pacific Time.
IF you DO NOT have a Squidge Image Hosting account and you want one, you have to sign up during one of the periods when signups are enabled. And you will also be affected by the 30 minute downtime today.
