Breaking the Ocean

Jack was the ocean, and the ocean was Jack. It sounds insane
but Barbosa would swear by it. He always compared them, the ocean
and Jack…they were so much alike. Barbosa had it in his head until
the day he died that Jack was spawned from the sea, born and raised
in it's depths and spat out right onto a crows nest, a full grown
man. He claimed that that was why Jack was so clumsy on dry land, he
was too full of the ocean…he never truly got his land legs when they
docked. Barbosa was in love with Jack and before the mutiny, they
would spend long days as Captain and first mate and long nights as
lovers trying to find completion in each others arms. Yet Jack did
not love Barbosa as completely as Barbosa loved his captain. Jack
would chase anything on two legs; he was wild and unpredictable and
often went into rages…where Barbosa took the worst of it.

Barbosa soon became the captain of the black pearl…he betrayed Jack
despite the fact it broke his heart. It hurt. Seeing Jack standing
there with the gun he gave him, getting smaller and smaller as they
sailed away. But, Jack was the ocean! Jack could survive. They would
meet again… he knew it. Barbosa would pray every night that on that
day, he would have the strength to break the ocean.
