Chapter Fifty - Aiding an Old Lover
*****
The cellphone ringing in his car woke Yohji from his light doze. He wondered for a moment how he'd actually slept with the waves coming in around him. Then realized it was because his lover had moved them at some point off the beach to the grass beside the passenger side of the car. He groaned and got up reaching for the phone and flipping it open.
Enzeru stretched and watched his lover answer the phone. He leaned up on one elbow and traced his fingertips lightly up Yohji's bare ribs, smiling when the blonde squirmed and swatted his hand. He finally gave up as his lover glared at him and he let out a melodramatic sigh and fell back to look up at the stars. He looked quickly back at Yohji when he felt the air around his lover tense and the urgency in his voice.
"Yohji it's Deiji, I need your help."
"My help? What...."
Silently Yohji listened to his old lover pulling on his pants as he listened. He'd never heard the other man sound so desperate or afraid. When Deiji mention that the life and death situation surrounded a kid, the only thing he could think of was Mokuba the boy that sometimes stayed at Eden when his older brother had to be away for business.
"We're on our way Deiji. Your at home right?" he asked when the other man finished speaking. He nodded listening and then motioned to Enzu who was pulling on his own pants. "All right Deiji were on our way now." He turned to his lover as he stood up. "My friend Deiji something is wrong, it's life and death and a child is involved. He's asked me to bring you, he sounds desperate."
Enzeru nodded and stood, taking Yohji into his arms. "Tell me where," he said as he flapped his wings to stretch them then lunged into the sky. He looked down at Yohji and couldn't help the smile that crossed his face as he gazed deeply into his lover's eyes. He nodded and headed in the direction Yohji indicated.

Deiji sank down in a chair and brushed a hand over the head of greenish hair. "I have a friend, who knows someone who might be able to help us. They are on their way. I'm not letting you leave us without a fight," he growled. He had an idea of how Gozaburo must have felt standing by and watching his son die, helpless to do anything even with all his money to stop it.
Noa swallowed back his nervousness, feeling fear from Deiji. "I don't want to leave yet... not when I've only just met you and Mokuba. I want to meet Seto too."
"I know chibi," Deiji murmured rocking him gently. "I want you to meet him too. " He heard the front door open and close. Then footsteps crossing the entry foyer and Yohji appeared in the family room doorway followed closely by the black winged angel.
Noa glanced over at the new people and his eyes went huge when he saw the black winged angel. "D...Deiji!"
"Sh... it's okay that's my friend Yohji. I asked him to bring the angel. I'm hoping he can help us," Deiji murmured caressing the trembling body. "I know it's scary but I really think he might be able to help us." He looked up at the angel. "Please, it's not fair to take him twice. Help us."
Enzeru wasn't sure what was going on. Yohji hadn't said much beyond the fact that a friend needed his help. He smiled at the frightened boy and nodded to the man with him. "Don't be frightened child. I did not take you the first time, but I do remember you. Come here." He sat on the floor indian style and held his arms out to the child, beckoning him over.
Noa glanced at Deiji as if to make sure it was alright before slowly releasing his death-grip on him and moving towards the angel. "You remember me?"
Enzeru smiled and nodded. "Hai, they brought you to heaven. I was there and was the one who told you where you were. I was not in heaven with you, more like outside in the waiting room so to speak." He beckoned again for the child to sit in his lap and waited patiently for him to trust him enough to do so.
Noa slowly settled down into his lap, still scared but somehow curious. "I don't remember that..."
Enzeru smiled and settled his arms gently around the child. "Of course you wouldn't. What is your name? Mine is Enzeru. I am Yohji's...friend...you can trust me. Tell me what is wrong and I will see what I can do to help you little one."
Noa's eyes flickered to see the tall blonde, then back to Enzeru. "I'm Noa. I have a tumor on my heart...are you going to use a laser on it?"
Enzeru looked at Noa curiously. "What is a laser? One of those things like on TV? No, I can do something much better than that." He closed his eyes and set his palm flat over Noa's heart, pressing a little. He frowned and opened his eyes after a moment, looking to Deiji, his expression serious. "It is a good thing you called Yohji when you did. Just relax Noa. This won't hurt a bit."
Noa nodded slowly, not wanting to close his eyes as he watched the hand on his chest and relaxed in his arms. "Okay."
Deiji stood close by the angel and the small child he'd come to care for. He couldn't believe he was actually trembling. This was the kind of feeling he would have thought that he would have if something were to happen to his lover. But the draw he felt for little boy was strong. He looked around as he felt a strong arm slide around him.
"Thank you for coming," he murmured.
"I had too. I've never heard you so desperate before," Yohji replied.
"I don't understand it either," Deiji sighed. "I barely know him but..." He broke off as the angel touched his lips to the child's forehead. "What's he doing?" he whispered his eyes never leaving the angel and child.
"He's healing him," Yohji smiled and rubbed his friend's back soothingly.
"Healing..." Deiji stared at him a moment and then turned back to watch awestruck.
Enzeru's wings stretched and began to flutter behind him as he began the chant. The air around him and Noa began to buzz and warm, a soft white light surrounded them as he pressed his hand a little harder against the boy's chest. He felt the heartbeat falter a bit, then quicken, and he realized the tumor was larger than he had originally thought. This was going to take quite a bit of time, but it had to be done quickly before the sickness had a chance to begin to grow again after the initial healing. He continued to chant, the language of the tenshi soft and musical in the air around him. He pulled the child closer into his lap and concentrated on stopping the growth.
Noa gasped when his vision grayed for a moment, fighting not to panic and be as still as possible even though he just wanted to run and hide behind Deiji. Noa's hand grabbed onto Enzeru's shirt as he just fought to concentrate on breathing and not passing out.
Deiji stared at the white light that built around the little boy and the angel. He saw Noa's eyelids flutter momentarily then open wide in fear. He wanted to run forward to hold him but Yohji's arm held him still. "How long does it take. Does it always work?"
"It varies from healing to healing," Yohji said softly holding tight to his old lover's waist. Don't worry he's in the best hands possible. Even the Kritiker Doctors can't touch Enzu for healing. This must be bad though."
"A tumor on his heart," Deiji muttered. Then anger leaped inside of him. "God they brought him back knowing his illness was terminal they were probably already working on the paperwork to have Kaiba Corp handed over to them. If I hadn't moved when I did..." Deiji broke off wanting to hit something, anything to vent his anger.
Enzeru frowned again at Noa's reaction and pulled him even closer, chanting harder, the light around them brightening slightly. He began to grow a bit dizzy, but ignored it and continued the healing. He pressed his palm a bit harder against the small chest and his expression relaxed as his hand finally phased into the boy's chest and to his heart. He gripped the weakly beating organ in his hand gently and his chanting grew faster as Noa's chest glowed with a light of its own. Enzeru began to rock back and forth gently, cradling the boy against his chest as the pain the boy had been through both before his death and after his resurrection was passed to the dark angel. His chanting was cut off by an occasional sob and he entered the boy's mind as he continued to rid his heart of the burden.
He walked through the darkness in the child's mind until he found him standing alone, his chin resting on his chest.
/Noa. I am here. I want to take you somewhere where you won't feel the pain as it is released./ He held his hand out to the child and smiled reassuringly at him.
Noa slowly looked up at him, uncertain. /Will I wake up this time? Can you promise me I will?/
Enzeru nodded. /Yes. You will wake up, and your tumor will be gone, but it will take time. I am weak, I want to take you somewhere we can rest./ He walked forward in the darkness and cupped the boy's cheek in his hand. /I have never lied, Noa, to anyone. The healing is going to hurt, when you were brought back, the sickness started to grow again.
I want to take you where you won't feel the pain. Innocence should never know pain, Noa. Come with me./ He took Noa's hand and smiled again.
Noa squeezed his hand and started away with him. /I'll go with you, Enzeru. Thank you./
Yohji had to wrap both arms around his friend when Enzeru's hand slipped into the boy's chest. "Stop it Deiji! He knows what he's doing."
"He's hurting him! Look at him you can see it!" Deiji ranted. He could hear footsteps in the entry and realized his outburst had caused it. Just as suddenly the creases of pain left the boys face and Deiji felt his knees buckle he'd failed. He'd failed to protect the little boy and he'd promised.
"It's alright I promise. It's alright," Yohji soothed holding his friend.
Enzeru lead the boy into the darkness, and a light appeared before them. They walked into the light on the other side was a park. The cherry blossoms were in bloom and the breeze made them swim in the air on the currents. All around them, children played as parents smiled and watched them. Laughter filled the air as the children ran around them.
/This, Noa, is my special place. If I had had a childhood, this is what I would have wanted it to be like./
Noa seemed to relax just by stepping into the new area, watching the calm happiness around him. /It's so nice here...why didn't you have a childhood?/
Enzeru smiled as a baby staggered over on chubby legs and began to play with the tip of his wing. He looked at Noa, relieved to see the boy relaxed. /I was created a long time ago. It was like waking up and having no past, but knowing everything that had happened before you were there. I was a fully-grown man when I woke. There is no childhood for tenshi, Noa. That is something that is reserved for mortals./
Noa frowned a little, but kept a hold of his hand. /You can share mine then/
Enzeru felt a tug at his own heart at Noa's words. He closed his eyes and smiled. /Thank you, Noa. Go and play, I am going to rest under the tree there./ He released the boy's hand and picked up the baby, taking him back to his mother who smiled and thanked him. He walked over to the tree and slumped against it, suddenly having a sickening feeling in his stomach as the pain from Noa's heart began to fill his being. He drew his knees up to his chest and rested his forehead on his knees.
Noa touched his shoulder. /Will you be alright? I can push you on the swing, it always helps me feel good if I use a swing set./
Enzeru looked up at Noa and smiled. /No thank you, Noa. I will be okay soon. Go and have some fun. We can't stay long, but we will return again later./
Noa nodded and turned to go and play while the dark angel rested in the shade of the tree, his mind temporarily forgetting how or why he even got to that park in the first place.
Enzeru watched Noa play for a few moments before resting his head back on his knees as the feeling returned more intense. It took some time for the feeling to finally pass. Enzu stood, knowing it was time to stop the healing before he weakened himself further. He was growing hungry; he had to feed before he could continue. Driving himself to exhaustion again would do the boy no good. He took a few deep breathes and looked around the park, finally spotting the green haired boy on the swings and walked over to him.
/It's time to go back now Noa./ He reached out for the boy's hand and smiled.
Noa slowed the swing and took his hand again. /Okay, I had fun here Enzeru. We can come back some day?/
Yohji was beginning to worry himself. His lover had already been weak and had pushed himself to get to Deiji's as fast as they could fly. But he didn't dare let on his own worry. His old lover was barely holding on by a thread as he knelt on the floor staring at the two, tears trailing down his cheeks silently. /Come back to me Enzu, what's happening?/
Enzeru nodded and took Noa's hand, squeezing it reassuringly. He closed his eyes as the world around them started to swirl and spin and his free hand went to his forehead. He felt the air around him rush past his ears as he started to fall backwards.
Back in the room with Deiji and Yohji, the chanting stopped abruptly and the light flickered out around the angel and the boy. Enzeru moaned and fell with a thump to the floor, releasing his hold on the boy as he did so.
Noa's blank eyes slowly started to gain light again as he fully regained control of his body. He blinked slowly, letting them focus before getting up on an elbow. "..huh..."
"Enzu!" Yohji lost his battle with his fear and ran to his fallen lover even as Deiji gathered up the child holding him and crying silently. Yohji dragged his lover into his arms calling his name.
Noa looked at Deiji, slightly confused but finally hugged him when he felt amazingly better than previously. "I'm okay..."
Enzeru groaned and turned to Yohji trying to smile. "I'm ok love, I just need to rest and feed."
"I thought I'd failed you," Deiji choked out holding Noa tight to his chest. "I thought you were gone." Hearing the angel's word Deiji dropped down beside him. "Anything whatever you need just tell me."
Yohji sighed and looked up at Deiji. "We'll need to go out." He leaned up and whispered in Deiji's ear and watched the man's eyes grow wide.
"I know right where to find it," the big man growled.
Noa glanced at Enzeru when he mentioned something about feeding. "Akiko-san makes good food...we have some left, right Deiji?"
Enzeru wrapped his arms around his chest and groaned, burying his face in Yohji's stomach. "Let's go...now."
Yohji nodded and looked at his friend. "Deiji?"
Deiji nodded and stood up carrying Noa over to where Akiko-san stood frozen in the doorway. "Chibi let Akiko-san take you up and put you in bed with Mokuba. Yohji, Enzeru and I will be back as soon as we can. Will you do that for me?"
"Enzeru...thank you." Noa said back to the dark angel that saved him as he was passed to Akiko. "Okay Deiji, don't be too long?"
"Thank you Noa, I promise we will be back, soon." Deiji touched his cheek and watched the stunned woman hurry away with her charge up the stairs. He went over and helped Yohji lift Enzeru. "Lets go."
Noa had no objections at all to being placed next to Mokuba in the bed, cuddling up to the other with the teddy bear and falling asleep, glad he was going to get to know his brothers when he woke up this time.
**********
Kenko had been awakened by the sounds downstairs and got dressed quickly. He could hear how upset Deiji was and he frowned when he heard Yohji. What was he doing here, part of Kenko really liked the detective another part was jealous of shared past that didn't include him.
Quickly dressing he hurried to the steps and downstairs in time to see the most unusual sight. He stopped watching as Deiji and Yohji were trying to help a man with dark wings out the door. Panicking not knowing what was going on he ran over to Deiji grabbing his arm his dark eyes bright with worry.
"Deiji? What's going on? Who is he and why is Yohji here and where are you going with him?" Seeing his lover turn and pin him with the eyes he loved so much he shook his head. "It doesn't matter I'm going with you." He gripped the arm tighter showing that he wasn't going to get rid of him that easily.
Deiji opened his mouth starting to tell his lover no, that he wanted him to stay at the estate and stay safe. But he knew that determined look and that the older man wouldn't be put off.
"All right, but when we get where we are going you are staying in the car with Mike." He saw his lover start to protest and put a finger to his lips. "No arguments or you will stay here. This is not something for you to see. If you are going with us go tell Mike we need him and the limo pronto."
He watched his lover nod and the older man ran down the front steps towards the garage with its large chauffeur's apartment upstairs. By the time he and Yohji had helped Enzeru to the bottom of the stairs the limo was pulling out of the garage and heading their direction.
Deiji nodded approval as Mike drove towards them using the larger of the estate's two limousines. Unlike the one that they used normally this one had two seats facing each other in the back. He didn't wait when it pulled to a stop in front of them. He grabbed the handle opening the door himself and helping Yohji and the dark winged angel inside. Kenko slid out of the front passenger seat to join them in the back.
