Dream of Daybreak
by Aditi

Darkness...
Eyes that can not pierce the darkness...
A body,
standing alone,
facing the night.
A motto: to trust in no one,
to rely on oneself.
A light shows the face - it is my own.

Day begins to break...
a new body appears -
with it appears hope,
faith in love.
I see the face;
it is yours.

You take my hand -
I tremble at the sensation -
a sensation I have not felt for many years.
Your mouth forms words
of love, comfort, admiration -
but I can not hear you -
can I dare trust?
Your eyes gaze upon me -
an eloquent expression of
what you feel.
Your arms enfold me
guarding me against the harshness
of the outside world
- do I dare relax my own guard?
Your touch ignites fires
in me long suppressed
- do I dare feel such pleasure?

I feel I am losing this battle -
I feel you slowly tearing
down the walls around me -
struggle as I might.
You say our motto should be:
"Let us trust each other,
rely on each other"...
and as time passes you
show me how.

I find I am yet again
facing the dark in
the guise of the unknown.
This time I am not alone -
side-by-side we will face
the dark...

and the day will break.
