The Good, The Bad, And the Ugly
By Cateyes
Olivia was eating a donut while leaning against her desk, and boy was she mad. She had worked on this case for weeks, and finally making the collar the night before, and who has to screw it up? You got it, Casey Novak.
Elliot walks into the room placing his coat on the back of his chair. He could tell that Olivia was mad, you could almost see the steam rolling out her ears. This was going to be a day that nobody would soon forget. When Olivia wasn't happy, no one was happy. He figured that he would get some coffee and a donut before facing the firing squad.
"Damn, only glazed donuts. Why don't they get some of the cream filled ones?" He asked looking directly at Munch.
"Don't look at me, I've put in my request for long johns, but no one seems to be listening." He fired back at Elliot as both men looked at Fin.
"Hey, don't get your panties in a bunch, I'll go get whatever you want, Okay? Can I help it if I get to the donuts first? If you want first pick, then get here earlier." He stated leaving the office in search of cream filled donuts and long johns. "You people are babies." He remarked before disappearing down the hallway.
"Have you spoken to Olivia yet?" Elliot asked Munch as he looked at Olivia, leaning on her desk madder than an old wet hen.
"Have you taken complete leave of all your senses? Of course I haven't spoken to her. I'd like to keep my head right where it is, thank you very much." He responded defensively before walking to his desk as quietly as possible as to not disturb Olivia.
Before Elliot could get his coffee, donut and leave Olivia entered the breakroom for a refill of coffee.
Okay, here goes nothing, Elliot said to himself. "Morning, Olivia." He remarked from across the room.
"Yeah, whatever." She grumped.
"What's up Liv?" Elliot asked casually.
"Yesterday was crappy enough with Casey blowing the Robertson case all to hell, but I go home and my cat, Felix, has carried off one of my bunny slippers. And he won't tell me where it is. Damn Feline." She said angrily. "I think I'll take him to the vet to get his rabies shot early." She said as she poured herself another cup of coffee.
As if things couldn't get any worse this morning. Who should walk into the squad room? You got it, Casey Novak. Boy she is either really brave or really stupid and Elliot hadn't figured out which yet. Maybe she will leave before Olivia sees her, he thought to himself. No such luck, he said under his breath, as Casey walked right up to Olivia.
"Olivia, I know that we got off on the wrong foot, and I'd like to change that if I could." Casey told Olivia, in a pleading tone of voice.
"Excuse Me?" Olivia replied with great hostility.
"I know that yesterday things didn't go very well in court and I'm sorry." Casey stated looking down at her shoes.
"That is the understatement of the year. We gift wrapped that case for you. It should've been a slam-dunk. God only knows how you could screw it up. Alex Cabot would've chewed up that defense attorney and spit him back out, and still had time for her morning run before work. But you come along and screw everything up." Olivia said while trying very hard not to raise her voice.
Before Casey could respond Fin came in with more donuts, cream filled and long johns as requested.
"Excuse me ladies, don't mean to interrupt you're little cat fight, but these gotta go in here, Dad says." Fin explained before leaving the room.
Walking over to Elliot and Munch, who were watching the discussion from the corner of the room, he said, "Twenty says that she bitch-slaps Novak" as he pulled a twenty dollar bill out of his pocket.
"I'm in." Elliot said. "She won't do that at work. Too much class." Elliot fired back.
"Yeah, sure." Fin said. "You didn't see them in there. I think she is ready to spit nails."
Back in the break room the two women were still deep in discussion.
"I didn't mess anything up. The case had holes in it, that you and Elliot should have closed. So, if you want to talk competence or incompetence shall we say. It is you and Elliot that screwed up this case. Not Me." Casey replied with increasing hostility as she picked up her coffee.
"Hey, Leave me out of this little cat fight." Elliot stated as he picked up a cream filled donut and left the room.
"Sorry." Casey replied.
"What in the hell is wrong with you? You had the perp, the gun with his prints on it, DNA from the rape that was a perfect match, means, motive and opportunity. The case was made for you. All you had to do was show up. Any first year law student could've successfully prosecuted that case blindfolded. Are you this incompetent with everything you do, or do you save the really go stuff just for us?" Olivia asked dripping with sarcasm.
"Ok, so maybe I have made a few mistakes, that doesn't mean that I'm incompetent." She defended.
"Casey, do you want my honest opinion? Well, you're going to get it anyway. You couldn't whip your way out of a wet paper bag with fifteen holes in it and the instructions on the inside. You couldn't find your own ass in the dark with both hands and a flashlight on in your back pocket. What an idiot. Why don't you go back to white collar crime, where you don't have to get your pretty little hands dirty? God knows you might break a nail if you stay with special victims." Olivia growled reaching for her coffee.
"Yeah, well, …..So what!" She said before walking out the door. Just as she got to the hallway, she turned and came back to the breakroom, definitely mad.
"Hey, just because your little girlfriend went and got herself killed doesn't give you the right to be a complete mega bitch to everyone!" She fired back pleased with herself.
"That's it!" Olivia growled raising her fist to hit her. But just as she was going to hit her and knock her on her prissy little ass she spotted Cragen, who just shook his head no at her. Shit! She thought to herself.
This will work just fine, she said to herself as she threw her cup of hot coffee at Casey. The coffee landed all over the front of her light blue business suit. Of course it wasn't hot anymore, but it was black.
"Look at what you have done!" Casey whined. "You have ruined my new suit!"
"Isn't that just a pity." Olivia said leaving her standing there stunned as she walked off with a grin on her face from ear to ear.
"I feel better now." Olivia said as she picked up her coat and headed to the car.
"Are we going to work today?" She asked Elliot as she slipped her coat on. "Now, if I can just get my damn cat to hand over that bunny slipper, everything would be just ducky." Olivia said as she contemplated her strategy to retrieve her slipper from her cat when she returned home.
"If you figure it out let me know, because Otis took Kathy's fuzzy bear slipper last week." He replied as they drove off
