Never Lied
By Kelly

Blair had moved to his room to spread out all of his papers, and turned on his boom box to boot. Whatever CD Blair was playing he'd turned down in deference to Jim's hearing, and Jim appreciated the thoughtfulness of his roommate. *Is it any wonder you're in love with him? He takes care of you better than you take care of yourself.* He listened to the lyrics of the song as they played.

//I'd never tell you one lie, I'd never let you down
I'd never leave I'd be the one who'd always be around
Baby, give me a chance//

*That's Blair all right,* Jim acknowledged to himself. *He's never left my side yet... not even when I told him to get lost. He's been there every step of the way, no matter how painful those steps were.*

//I'd pull the sun down from the sky
To light your darkest night
I wouldn't let one drop of rain fall down into your life
Put your heart in my hands//

*And that's me,* he mused. *Do anything for Blair to keep him safe and happy. Give him the moon if that's what it took to make him smile at me, just once.*

//Baby, believe me, I could never do you wrong
And I would never paint your world blue
And if sometimes it seems I must have lost my mind
I might be crazy, but I'm crazy about you//

*And that's both of us; he who has never done me wrong, never hurt me--not intentionally anyway, the curly-haired maniac... then me, crazy about him.* He shook his head. This song was getting to him, and not in a good way. If he didn't stop listening, he'd be going in there and confessing.

//I'd lie for you and that's the truth
Do anything you asked me to
I'd even sell my soul for you, I'd do it all for you
If you'd just believe in me//

*Hoo boy. If that's not Blair, I don't know what is. How many times has he lied for me to cover up my Sentinel senses or to get my ass out of wringer with Simon? And all he asks is for trust, for someone to believe in him.*

//Just take a look in my eyes
You'll see a love that's blind
Just take a hold of my hand,
I'll take you to paradise//

*Who the hell wrote this song anyway? Somebody's been peeping in my window or my head,* he thought grumpily, snapping his newspaper. He didn't like anyone knowing his feelings for Blair--those were personal, for his Guide alone.

//Ain't a star that's too far
Your every wish will be a wish
That I will make come true
And if you want the moon
I swear I'll bring it down for you
Let me into your heart//

//Believe me, baby, got your name carved on my soul

'Cause you're the only one that I'll give it to
Go let 'em say that I'm a fool to act this way
'Cause if I'm crazy, I'm just crazy 'bout you//

//I'd lie for you and that's the truth
Move mountains if you want me to
I'd walk across the fire for you
I'd walk on the wild for you
If you'd just believe in me//

*That's it. When this song is over I am confiscating that CD. I can't listen to this song again,* Jim thought, crumpling the newspaper in his hands. His chest was starting to hurt the more he thought about Blair. He threw the wadded newspaper into the trash can and it made a satisfying thump as it bounced off the counter and rebounded into the can. *Nobody should be allowed to write a song like this.* He fought the urge to get up and pace like a caged animal. *Nobody should be allowed to drive me nuts like this.*

//And you will never see a day I'll ever break your heart
You'll see the sky fall down before it ever gets that far
I'll show you heaven every second that you're in my arms
Baby, I'm crazy, but I'm crazy 'bout you//

That did it. Jim vaulted up from the couch and started pacing the living room, in circles around the couch. *I am going to be going crazy if this song lasts much longer!*

//I'd lie for you and that's the truth
Do anything you asked me to
I'd even sell my soul for you, I'd do it all for you
If you'd just believe in me

I'd lie for you and that's the truth
Move mountains if you want me to
I'd walk across the fire for you
I'd walk on the wild for you
If you'd just believe in me

I'd lie for you and that's the truth.//

Finally the song ended, and without warning, Jim ripped aside the curtain that separated Blair's room from the living room and jerked the CD out of the CD player. He almost sent it sailing out the window but the window was shut and locked. "Jim? Man, Jim, what's the matter? You're freakin' out on me!"

Jim flung the CD into the other room and listened to it skid across the sofa. "That song was driving me out of my mind!"

Blair's face was a solid mask of confusion. "What song?"

"That song on the CD! The one you were just listening to!" The tightness in Jim's chest increased with every breath, and he knew the time had come; he had to take action and now.

"What, Meat Loaf? It was a gift from one of my students, after I tutored him and helped him pass--what is with you?"

"This is what's with me!" Jim grabbed Blair by the arms and dragged him over the papers, kissing him fiercely. He couldn't help himself, he had to do it. Blair's mouth was stiff under his at first but then softened and opened, and Blair's tongue peeked through. Jim immediately latched onto his Guide's tongue with his mouth, sucking and laving it with his own as he felt Blair's hands slide over his chest and dig into his shoulders.

Blair finally pushed Jim away. "Jim? Not that I minded that, but what the hell!"

Jim licked his lips, tasting his Guide on them. "I told you, that song was driving me nuts. I was sitting there trying to read the newspaper and all I could think about was us."

"Us?" Blair's face was still massively confused, but the swollen lips and half-lidded eyes made even confusion look seductive on the Guide.

"Us, Blair. You and me, Sentinel and Guide, Blair and Jim." Jim started moving towards Blair on the bed.

A song lyric skittered through Blair's mind. //On a hot summer night would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?// He tamped down hysterical laughter as he scooted away from Jim until he could get a straight answer. *I'm the wolf and he's chasing me!* "What about us?"

Jim growled as Blair scooted. "Us. As in, are we an us? We need to be an us. I want us to be us."

"You are making *no* sense, man!"

"I am making plenty of sense for a man who is totally and completely in love with you and who has been driven out of his mind for the last ten minutes by that fucking song." His hands fastened on Blair's ankles and he dragged.

Blair stopped fighting when he heard that. "You are in love with me?"

"Undeniably," Jim replied, reeling Blair in. "Completely, totally, unbelievably." He kept reeling Blair in until Blair's legs rested comfortably around his waist. "You?"

"Me?" Blair asked, teasing his Sentinel. "Let's see... I kissed you back, in case you didn't notice, and I'm lying on my back with my legs around your waist and my hands sliding up your chest." He laughed as Jim looked down at his Guide's moving hands. "What do you think?"

"I think... that I'd like to hear you say it."

Blair nodded, suddenly serious. "I love you too, Jim. Have for a long time... just about every since I met you." He sat up enough to slip his arms around Jim's neck. "I'd hoped but I didn't know."

Jim wrapped his arms around Blair's waist and settled Blair in his lap. "I felt the same way," he said against Blair's throat. "Just took that damn song to make me say and do something."

"I'll have to play Meat Loaf more often."

"You might not get out of bed," Jim said, nuzzling Blair as he laughed.

"And you say that like it's a bad thing." Blair giggled as they tumbled back onto his bed together.
