Hours and hours had passed since the tragic events on the other side of the country...

And Simon Banks hung up the phone, turned away from the television, the group of his stunned and heart-wounded detectives, feeling a huge emptiness where his own heart had been, and leaned against the window - long repaired - where a terrorist had dangled his fourteen year-old son over the street, years earlier. His eyes went to the still vacant lot where the Coiner Building had stood before Kincaid's attack, not really seeing, just remembering... remembering all the attacks of terror perpetuated against the people of Cascade by Kincaid and other terrorists... He pressed his forehead to the glass, wrapped his arms around his ribs, closed his eyes, prayed and wept.

"Joan," he whispered, "please, please, please... call..."
