New Beginnings 2

Last time:
I opened the door and had to catch my breath at the smile that crossed his face as he sees me. He had his hair down, falling in soft waves to his shoulders . . . no gel today. His glasses were perched on the end of his nose and he looked so . . . vibrant, so intelligent that my head told me that there's no way he'd ever want to be with me for the rest of his life. There's so much more out there for him. But my heart refused to listen. I was going to go for it.
"Hey Simon. How's it goin'?"

On With the Show....
Suddenly I felt ridiculous, clutching the tickets like a nervous teenager on a first date with a bunch of flowers. My mouth was drier than Jim's sense of humour on a good day, and my heart was doing the two step on fast forward. The sight of Blair's smile does more to unnerve me than looking down the barrel of gun.
"Sandburg..." Oh brilliant. The least you could do is call him by his first name. "Blair...I dropped by to see if you had any plans for the evening. A buddy of mine got me court yard seats for the game tonight. I was thinking of going out for a bite to eat afterwards."
"Cool!" If it was possible for that smile to get any brighter it did. "Oh man, but Jim's got that shindig tonight. Smoozing with the mayor and all."
It was now or never. Screw up your courage and do it dammit
"Well acutally, I was thinking that maybe it could just be..the two of us."
I could have died with embarassment at how pathetic that sounded. God. It wasn't like I hadn't been out on a date before. And it wasn't as though I hadn't asked someone out before. But for seem reason, the very existence of my future seemed to be hanging on the answer to this question.
There was a new awareness in the blue eyes that stared intently at me, searching my face -- for what I didn't know.
"I'd like that Simon. Very much." A small knowing smile had replaced the mega-watt grin. "Pick me up at six?"
I nodded. My heart had stopped its pounding and threatened to simply sieze up and freeze with the realization that this was going to happen. I made as though to leave, frantically thinking of what I had to wear. My hand was on the door knob when Blair spoke again.
"And Simon? What took you so long?" I turned, as the sultry undertones went straight to the primal part of my brain and my libido jumped. He had put on a 'who-me?-I'm-innocent' look, which we both knew to be a lie. With a self depreciating grin, I shut the door behind me,
relishing the deep chuckles that followed me down the hallway from his office.
We had a date. An honest to goodness date.
Finis for now...feed me....feeeeeed me.. <eg>
