Don't Push
by Saul

Jim had been flattered when a young woman had asked for a date with him. He met her at the agreed restaurant but had swiftly realized that she was even younger than Sandburg. She didn't look that young, but it was so hard to tell these days. To cap it all off, she was the daughter of a homicide detective. He had left as soon as he could after paying the bill and making sure she had got into her car safely. If she hadn't been so nice and innocent, Jim would have suspected that she was part of a practical joke being played on him.

Jim sat in his truck working up a head of steam with his anger at himself for being suckered into feeling hopeful about a date. He was so desperate that he ignored the small voice in his head telling him to ask more questions before accepting the date. Now he had to go upstairs and face Sandburg's barrage of questions about what had happened.

Blair looked up startled as Jim slammed the door. "Hey man, how did your date go?" Blair didn't think it had gone particularly well by the sound of Jim's entrance.

"None of your business, Sandburg." Jim didn't want to discuss it, certainly not with him. Jim went to the fridge, got a beer and twisted off the cap.

Blair could tell it had gone horribly wrong. Blair got up from the couch and walked around the kitchen island to where Jim was standing by the fridge as he drank the beer in large swallows.

"You want to talk about it, Jim?" Blair could tell that Jim was angry about something.

"What part of, 'none of your business', don't you get, Sandburg?" Jim finished one beer and grabbed another, slamming the fridge door as punctuation to his sentence. He started to drink the second beer.

"Man, you sure are in a pissy mood. Did she turn you down or something?" Blair was unprepared for the sudden move by Jim.

Jim slammed down the half empty bottle, grabbed Blair by the shirt and slammed him up against the fridge door. "Shut the fuck up Sandburg." Jim growled at Blair, as he looked into Blair's eyes with icy rage.

Blair looked back at Jim's rage and calmly questioned Jim. "Why are you getting mad at me, you jerk? I'm trying to be your friend here." Blair knew that Jim wouldn't hurt him. Backing down to Jim was not an option either.

Jim was angry with Blair for all sorts of reasons. "God dammit, why do you always have to push." Jim just wanted to be left alone once and a while. Jim stared at Sandburg with the rage and frustration showing clearly.

Blair returned a calm and even look right back to Jim. "I push because you need to be pushed. You want to be pushed. You want me - to push you." Blair started out talking and by the end was whispering.

Jim could smell Blair's arousal. It wasn't anything new. There had always been a faint hint of it in Blair's base scent. It usually was stronger when Jim got right in his face. Tonight it was just making Jim angrier. He was sexually frustrated and Blair was feeding it with his pheromones.

"Don't push me Sandburg." Jim slammed Blair back against the fridge. He stalked over to the bench and finished off the half bottle of beer.

Blair straightened himself and squared his shoulders. "Or else what Jim? You going to kick me out again, if I ask annoying questions? You going to make me shut up? What Jim? What would you do if I kept pushing? What are you afraid of doing?" Blair had always noticed the interest in Jim's eyes, but Jim was too chicken shit to do anything about it.

Jim swung around and grabbed Blair's face between his hands. "Don't, Sandburg. Just don't." Jim had started out threatening, and finished off as pleading.

"Tell me what I shouldn't do Jim. Tell me Jim." Blair whispered as he gazed at Jim's eyes.

"Don't push, Sandburg." Jim ground out from his stiff jaw. He was trying to not lose control.

"What do you want Jim?" Blair whispered. Then he licked his lips and closed his eyes. Maybe now Jim would take what Blair was so willing to give.

Suddenly Jim ripped away from Blair and then was gone. Blair opened his eyes to see him striding out the door with a slam. Blair wondered whether Jim would come back or stay away. He could only wait.
