A Perfect End to a Horrible Day

By Mytryk

Blair let himself in. It had been a terrible day at the station for everyone. Between the new cases and the mayor's "out rage at the police on their lack of progress in stemming crime," his lover had reached his stress limits before lunch. Now to get everything ready.

Moving into the kitchen, Blair set down the bags he was carrying and began to unpack. He set the ingredients for dinner to one side and opened the bottle of wine so it could breathe. Carrying the rest of the items into the bathroom, he set some of the scented candles around the tub and put the bath oils next to it so they would be easy to grab when he ran the bath. He'd specially picked the candles and oils for their soothing properties. Hopefully, they'd work on his stubborn lover. Grabbing a few towels, he dropped them and the other things he'd bought in the bedroom. Now to start dinner.

Blair quickly put together a simple, but elegant, casserole and popped it in the oven. It was his lover's favorite but Blair only made it on special occasions because it wasn't exactly the healthiest dish out there. It also had the added benefit, in this case, that once done, it could be left in the oven on low until it was time to eat. He quickly prepped the ingredients for a salad and set them in the refrigerator so they could be tossed together at the last minute. The strawberries and whipped cream were also put away so they would be ready for later.

Blair grabbed some blankets and pillows from the closet and dumped them on the floor by the fireplace. After readying a fire to be lit later, Blair arranged everything into a cozy little nest for relaxing in later. He had just finished setting the table and arranging the flowers when the phone rang.

"Hello," he said as he picked it up.

"Oh, hello Rhonda."

"He just left, thanks for letting me know."

"No, I am not sharing details."

"Yes, he should be in a better mood by tomorrow. You shouldn't have to put out storm warnings."

"Bye now, talk with you later."

Hanging up the phone, Blair took the three roses he had set aside with him. He quickly penned a note and pinned it and one of the flowers on the front door. Moving to the bathroom, he started the tub, adjusted it to the right temperature, and added the oils. Lighting the candles he moved on to the bedroom leaving the second rose by the edge of the tub. There, he checked to make sure the massage oil and other supplies that would be needed later were in easy reach of the bed and placed the third bloom on the pillow. Grabbing his lover's robe, he returned to the bathroom, hung the robe by the tub, shut off the tub, and double checked to make sure all was in readiness.

Now, for his lover to get here.

************

It had been a terrible day at the office. If something could have gone wrong, it had. And to top it all off, he'd wanted to take Blair to a nice dinner that evening to unwind but he'd been out of the station for most of the afternoon running "personal" errands and had forgotten to charge his cell phone, again.

As he walked towards his front door, he noticed the flower and note. Moving closer he read:

Hello Love,

I know you've had a terrible day. So I came home early and got everything ready for you. You'll find a bath waiting for you. Go in and relax, I'll be with you shortly.

Love,
Blair

Taking in the smells of dinner and noting the arrangement by the fireplace as he moved through the living room, he made his way to the bathroom. He set the note and flower down by the sink and quickly divested himself of his clothing and lowered himself into the tub. Closing his eyes, he let the heat and aroma do their work.

***********

It has been about 10 minutes since his lover had arrived home, plenty of time for the bath to begin its work. Turning down the casserole, Blair poured a glass of wine and carried it into the bathroom. Carefully setting it on the edge of the tub, Blair leaned over to give his dozing lover a kiss.

"Welcome home love," said Blair as he broke the kiss.

"I love you Blair," replied his lover.

"I love you too. After you finish here, I have everything ready to give you a massage. Then dinner, one of your favorites. And afterward, desert and cuddling by the fire. I hope that meets with your approval."

"It sounds perfect," replied Simon. A smile gracing his face, "it should be a perfect end to a horrible day."
