The Major Oak
by Alwyn

There was an acorn long ago; it fell back down to earth,
Mother Nature nurtured it to bring about its birth.
It was fed and watered by Mother Nature's hand,
Gradually it responded and took root into the land.

The cycles of the seasons brought this sapling along,
The rain clouds sent their raindrops; the sunshine sang its song.
Soon this sapling became a member of a special group of trees;
It was visited by butterflies and buzzed around by bees.

This legendary tree stretched out his branches and deepened his roots,

He provided a home for the rooks and the owl that hoots.
His leafy canopy sheltered the outlaws so the rain didn't soak;
This acorn in Sherwood Forest grew up into The Major Oak.
