Little John

By Alwyn

There once was a man of six feet ten, who came from Hathersage,
He carried a shepherd's staff with him; he was of middle age.
As well as shepherding sheep on the land he could also fight with this staff,
He knew just how to defend himself he didn't do things by half.

One day whilst out walking in the woods he stumbled upon Robyn Hood.
Robyn challenged him to a fight as they stood there in the wood.

Their skills were extraordinary as they wielded their big staffs,
They hurt each other several times till they broke out into laughs.

Then Robyn said to this big man, what be your name my friend?
This tall figure replied, John Little, it was nearly your end.

Robyn said Ah! Little John that's what I'll call you from now on.
From then onwards they became best friends, the sun shined on them as one.

Little John was Robyn's right hand man; he was reliable and strong.
He kept a close watch on Robyn to see nobody did do him wrong.

That's the tale of Little John one of the outlaws from the clan.
Whenever Robyn was up to something Little John was in the plan!
