Guy of Gisburne
By Alwyn
The sheriff of Nottingham had an assistant he was called Guy of Gisburne.
Whenever the sheriff needed a dirty deed done, it was usually his turn.
He had the unenviable job of taking care of the sheriff needs.
This was almost impossible, as the sheriff was difficult to please.
When the sheriff had his orders directly from the king,
He would turn his thoughts to Gisburne and blame him for everything.
He sent Gisburne to Sherwood Forest to catch the outlaw Robyn Hood.
When Gisburne lost half his men, he was told he didn't do what he should.
So it was poor Guy of Gisburne, who could never please his lords,
The sheriff was too busy counting out his ill-gotten hoards.
Gisburne was enticed with regular offers of newly stolen land.
But it made no difference to the pursuit, he returned with an empty hand.
Gisburne was stuck in the middle of two opposing extremes,
On the one hand he had the sheriff, the other Robyn Hood, nothing was as it seems.
So that's the story of Gisburne who tried all he knew to get things right.
It made no difference what he did because he always lost the fight.
