Note: Today, one of my best friends called me and told me she had a miscarriage. I spent most of the night talking with her, letting her cry. Later, when I got home, I wrote the following poem. I've already shown it to my friend and she okay'd me posting it on the list.

WHATTA DAY
by Catlover
katlovers@cox.net

Today started out as a great day.

I went to the bathroom,
I went out the door,
I petted my cat,
As I skipped 'cross the floor.

My spirit was soaring,
In my heart was a song,
On my face was a smile,
That could last all day long.

Yes, it started out as a great day.

Then, came a nurse,
Then, came a doctor,
Then came my unborn twins,
With no heartbeat on the monitor.

Later, there were tests,
And some lengthy reviews,
Finally, out came a doctor,
To verify the horrible news.

Right up 'til then, it was such a wonderful day.

Later that night, I turned on my side,
And found my husband there,
I tried to hide,
As he stroked my hair.

I cried,
He cried,
We tried to find the words.

Finally, we fell asleep in the middle of the floor.

For a while, I listened as my husband snored,
And wondered how my spirit could ever have soared,
And as my eyes closed, I heard myself say,
"Whatta day."
