"I won't let anything eat ya...." The Captain-General smiled as Faramir glanced over at the grinning man laying beside him in the woods.
The road back to Gondor had been long, and treacherous. Boromir's men had been cut off from the main unit heading home, and had been tracked in the woods for three days by a raiding party of orcs. Slowly, he and his men had reduced the size of the raiding party, but it had not been without casualties. What was once a unit of forty men, was now down to fifteen. Luckily, they had run into reinforcements, Faramir and his rangers. Boromir had thanked the higher power daily to see his little brother was safe, and unharmed. Now, his men were working with the rangers to launch an assault to drive these accursed orcs back to the black depths from where they had been spawned.
"Thank you, Boromir. You are too good to me." The younger man glanced back up at the hill, and watched the orcs begin to descend, "By Gondor, they are ugly..."
Boromir nodded, "Yes, and they have an awful stench to them as well."
Faramir glanced back quickly, moving to give the signal to his men, "I know. You need a bath," the Captain paused, and raised his arm as the rangers raised their bows, "badly."
"Funny." Boromir drew his sword up and they waited, "At least I do not smell of mold."
"Musky, I smell musky," Faramir retorted quietly.
"I'm sure the ladies will approve," Boromir drew himself up to his knees.
Faramir snorted.
Boromir instinctively grasped his sword tighter, and cast a glance about the woods. Twenty-five Rangers, under his brother's command, were laying in wait for the orcs as they descended towards their position. "This should be easy."
As soon as the orcs were in sight of the rangers, Faramir gave the signal and all hell broke loose. A spray of arrows descended upon the orcs, cutting their party in half. Boromir and his men charged full out into the fray and made quick work of those that were left. At the end, he had only had two more men injured, and three rangers in need of the Houses of Healing.
Boromir glanced back up at his brother, and smiled. "Gondor is safe for now, let's head back and get these men home."
Faramir helped support one of his rangers for the trek up the hill, and turned back to his brother, "Bath. Please."
"Funny, Faramir." Boromir smirked, and lifted the litter up with his injured man on it. The party slowly made their way home.
