Homecoming

Lennie felt that he had every right to feel like he'd been run over by a truck. First, he and Ed have to drive to Canada and run around a couple days in search of Levi March and his wife. Then, he and Ed have to take March back to New York. They took March to Riker's, reported to Van Buren at the precinct, and she let them go home. By that time, it was eight o'clock in the evening.
Lennie came through the door and dropped his travel bag on the floor.
Jack stood up from his seat on the couch to greet him. He wrapped his arms around Lennie. "Hey."
Lennie sagged against Jack. "Hey."
Jack smiled. "You okay?"
"I'm just exhausted."
"Did everything go all right transporting March back here?"
Lennie nodded. "Yup. He sat in the back seat the whole time, without saying a word, except to ask about his wife."
Jack rubbed Lennie's shoulders. The time for thinking about work was over for the night. He was just happy to have his lover home. "I'm glad you're back."
"It's nice to be back. Three days in Canada is more than enough."
Jack chuckled. "Definitely. Two nights alone is two too many." He steered Lennie to the couch and they sat down together. He massaged the back of Lennie's neck.
Lennie smiled a tired smile. "You keep that up and you'll put me to sleep."
"Would that be such a bad thing?"
"Not at all."
Jack trailed his hand down Lennie's spine and rested his chin on Lennie's shoulder. "Hungry or anything?"
Lennie shook his head. "Too tired to eat."
Jack pulled back and grinned. "You?"
Lennie ran a hand through his hair and one end of his mouth quirked up.
"That happens on rare occasions." He covered his mouth to hide a yawn.
Jack stood up and held his hand out to Lennie. "I'll tuck you in."
"You gonna read me a story, too?"
"I won't go that far."
Lennie took Jack's hand and got to his feet. He stretched in an effort to work the kinks out of his back. He grunted and muttered, "I'm definitely getting old."
"You okay?"
Lennie shrugged. "My back's sore from spending so long in the car."
"If you play your cards right, I'll massage your back."
"I don't think I'd be awake long enough to enjoy it."
Jack tugged on Lennie's hand. "That's all right."
Lennie followed Jack. "I missed you."
Jack smiled over his shoulder. "I missed you, too."
The End
