"Sometimes I hate lawyers," Lennie said while he was sitting on the couch, watching the news.

"Anyone in particular?" Jack asked lightly, coming into the room. He stood behind the couch and put his hands on his lover's shoulders.

Lennie gestured to the TV. "Him."

Jack circled to the front of the couch and sat down next to Lennie. He watched Brad Feldman talking to the camera, "Given the timeline and the location of the murder weapon there's no way my client could have killed his wife."

"First, the Parks Department finds the gun before us. Instead of calling us, they call the press, who calls Vega's lawyer," Lennie complained in frustration. "Ed and I were sitting in Cahill's office, trying to get some information on the Vega's divorce. Ed and Cahill both got a call about the gun at almost the exact same time."

Jack was silent and knew that Lennie needed to blow off some steam. The detective had probably been brooding about the situation for the whole day.

"I wish I could find something to arrest him on."

"If Tommy Vega killed his wife, we'll get him," Jack said.

"Not him," Lennie replied and shook his head in annoyance. "Feldman. When we retraced Vega's steps, we found him at the crime scene with a photographer and he told us to look into Beth-Ann's shady past."

Jack didn't like Feldman much either and the thought of the other lawyer cooling his heels behind bars for a while held some appeal. "He's just doing his job. Too bad, he's so annoying about it."

"I'd like to see if he's so smug after spending one night with a 300-pounder named Bubba," Lennie stated.

Jack's eyebrow rose and he gave a small smile. He knew that his lover had a malicious streak, but Lennie kept it in check most of the time. It was true that Lennie was always sarcastic but the comments normally weren't that mean-spirited. "Remind me never to piss you off," Jack said.

Lennie stared at Jack for a minute before chuckling and trying to let his tension go. "I'd never wish Bubba on you."

"I'm glad to hear that."

"But it's just so frustrating."

Jack put his hand on Lennie's leg. "I know."

Lennie let out a long sigh and decided to forget about Feldman for the night. Worrying about the defense attorney was not doing him any good. He was determined to run the investigation to the best of his ability despite Feldman's interference and Tommy Vega's celebrity status. And who knows, he thought, Feldman might give us the grounds to arrest him for obstruction.

"Put it out of your mind," Jack said, "Feldman's not worth the stress."

"That's what I'm trying to do," Lennie responded, putting his head back and closing his eyes.

Jack squeezed his lover's knee and glanced at the TV to see the sports section of the news on. "Turn it up."

"Why?"

"I want to hear how the Cubs did today," Jack answered.

"It's only spring training," Lennie said, deciding to play with his lover a little. Baseball was Jack's favorite sport and he was still a Cubs fan after all these years.

"So?"

Lennie handed Jack the remote. "They probably lost."

"They're not that bad," Jack protested. "They could win the division this year."

"It's possible," Lennie allowed. "But they'd have to beat the Cardinals and the Astros. I don't think that's going to happen."

"It wouldn't be right for the Cards to win," Jack stated. Anyone from Chicago would take that as an article of faith. "And the Astros will fall apart like they always do."

"Maybe, but the Cubs are also cursed. The only good player they have is Sosa."

"They got Fred McGriff in the off-season."

Lennie and Jack watched the scores flash across the screen. "See, your Cubs lost to the Expos," the detective said.

Jack crossed his arms. "Damn. But, your Yankees lost too."

"Even the best can't win all the time."

Jack grunted and turned the TV off. "They'll win tomorrow."

"Hope springs eternal."

"Yup," Jack replied and stood up. He offered Lennie his hand. "I'm going to bed. Care to join me?"

Lennie grinned. "Sure."
