Bedtime Stories

"What'cha doin'?"

Simon looked up from his book, slightly surprised at the drawl in Mal's voice. He had a habit of clipping
off the ends of his words, but it was never something so pronounced as "What-cha". "I'm reading. What are
you doing?"

Mal stepped into Simon's quarters and closed the door. "Went out."

The smell hit Simon in a quick wave of ferment. "You've been drinking."

"Yess, I have." Mal dropped onto Simon's bed, dropped his head into Simon's lap. "What'cha readin'?"

"A book I picked up from the general store in town. Something about the wild west."

"Thought that was us."

"No, you're space cowboy." Simon smiled a little when Mal looked up at him somewhat drunkedly. "I assume
you're staying here tonight."

"Best to have someone about if I get to feelin' sick."

"If you get sick on my bed, I will kick you out."

"That ain't nice." Mal got his legs on the bed on the second try and wriggled up the bed to cuddle with
Simon's pillow. "You're a doctor."

"When you're vomiting from to much to drink, I'm merely the man who sleeps with you."

"Aw, you're more than that." Mal buried his face in Simon's pillow and pulled in a deep breath. "Your
pillow smells good."

Simon grinned a little more. "Thank you."

Mal crawled over to him and sniffed his neck. "You smell good, too." He curled his hand at Simon's
waist.

"Lay down."

"You gonna lay with me?"

"You first. I'll read to you for awhile."

"'Bout all those other cowboys?"

"Yes. Lay down."

Mal laid down, hand still on Simon's waist, his head on Simon's thigh.

Simon stroked Mal's hair and read him to sleep.
