If you've read any amount of my other work, this one may have you scratching your head. But I have a spiritual side, and strong beliefs that I sometimes struggle with. This song tells a little of how I've managed to keep my sanity in this insane world.
Praying in the Dark

Tonight I slip into my bed,
as I always do.
I take a breath, I clear my mind
and turn my thoughts to You.
I turn the light off, fold my hands,
and our communion starts.
I close my eyes as I send up
prayers in the dark.
Overseas so many Christians
suffer every day.
They're living under Godless rule
while following The Way.
Discovery could mean to them
their ruler's deadly mark,
and so they worship secretly,
praying in the dark.
He's barely out of gradeschool, Lord,
and trying not to sin.
The drugs are everywhere he looks
They've almost sucked him in.
Without some moral guidelines it
is almost sure he'll start.
But so far he's resisted,
praying in the dark.
Somewhere a young girl is crying
feeling so alone.
He swore that he would never leave
but now she's on her own.
The passion that they shared that night
has kindled up a spark.
"The pastor, or the clinic, Lord?"
She's praying in the dark.
Every day throughout the world are
voices lifted high.
Calls for mercy, strength and wisdom,
none will be denied.
In sunny halls of worship or
in prisons, bleak and stark,
it makes no difference where we are,
We're praying in the dark.
