A bullet pings hard off the wall near Hitchcock's head and he twitches away, further into the crumbling ruin, closer to his friends.
As a teenager, he had often thought that adventure wasn't his lot in life, but now he gets his fill and more until he is sick of it. The only thing that makes it bearable is the fact that his friends are there.
Beside him, Moffitt peeks up and snaps off a few shots. A scream sounds from the outer rubble, where the Germans hide.
He used to think this could never happen. Now he knows better.
