At The Water's Edge

I can feel the fear
Clutch hard
At my heart
As I watch you disappear
Beneath the waves,
My anguished scream
Echoing in the wind
As I stand frozen at the edge
Of the cliff,
My hand still outstretched
In a vain attempt
To pull you to safety.
The seconds
Turn into forever
As I watch the water
With every prayer I know
Echoing in my mind.
You'll be all right;
You have to be,
Because
I literally don't know
What I'd do without you.
Because
While the two of us
Have been closer
Than ordinary brothers usually are,
Lately we've become
Even closer still,
Finding in eachother's arms
A comfort
Neither of us realized
We were missing.
You've become not only
My brother
But my beloved,
And I can't imagine
A life
Without you by my side.
But then,
Your head bobs up
And I can feel my heart
Start again
As you wave to me,
Yelling
That you're okay
And how good the water is.
It's all I can do
To keep standing
I'm so weak with relief,
And I literally race down
The sandy path
Herding Scully in front of me
Just so
I can make sure
With my own eyes.
Watching you
Pick off seaweed
Has never been a more
Welcome sight
And after you justifiably
Punch Scully out,
I fling myself at you,
Smiling,
My fear relieved
As we stand together
At the water's edge
Of disaster,
The two of us
Finding reassurrance
And comfort
In the safety of eachother's arms.
