Work Text:

You Never Know
by Omega

He stood there, like a statue,
after I had spoken.
After all these years, I told
him the truth.
I love him.
God, I love him more than life.
He turned and ran,
taking the best part of me with him.
Bones came to me later that night.
Wondering what was wrong.
He saw the tears in my eyes
and pulled me into his arms,
giving me a safe haven to cry.
I told him the truth.
I told him I loved Spock
and that Spock ran from me.
Tears fell from my eyes
as I spoke.
Bones looked furious,
but then his face gentled.
He told me that most likely
Spock was afraid.
After all, no one's
ever cared for him for
himself.
He also told me
that Spock loved me
even though he wouldn't admit it.
He promised to talk to him
and was gone.
Later, Spock showed up,
looking like a kicked puppy.
Undoubtedly, I looked the same.
I was afraid to meet his eyes.
I was afraid to hear his voice.
But then he spoke.
"I . . ."
I looked up and met his eyes,
seeing the internal battle he was waging.
He came to a decision.
"I love you, too."
Oddly, it surprised me.
Spock surprised me again.
He took me into his arms,
holding me as if I were
a precious jewel.
Who knows?
Maybe to him, I am.
He certainly is to me.
You never know
when two souls will
find each other.
With Spock,
now I know.
