Work Text:

Romance
by Lilithangel

“It’s just a bloody shirt you pillock.”

“It was my favourite.”

“It looks just like all the others, how was I to know?”

“Idiot.”

“Wanker.”

“Angel, look out.”

“I had him you know.”

“Thank you, Spike, thank you for saving my sorry arse.”

“I didn’t need saving.”

“Hate you.”

“Hate you more.”

“All they do is bicker, all the time,” Fred said with a sigh.

“I thought when they started dating each other…” Gunn shuddered, “that all that shit would stop.”

“It is rather tiring,” Wesley agreed.

They were watching Spike and Angel going at it again, nose to nose and arguing.  Everyone had retreated to the lobby to wait it out and discuss their favourite topic… How did Angel and Spike really feel about each other?

“They do seem to enjoy the fighting,” Fred said.

“A lot,” Gunn added.

“Don’t you see it?” Harmony asked them curiously.

“See what?” Wesley asked as they all looked at her in confusion.

“They’ve been arguing for ten minutes straight and Spike hasn’t hit Angel once, Angel hasn’t pushed Spike and I’m pretty sure they’re holding hands,” Harmony said.

All their heads jerked back to the scene in the office.  Angel and Spike stopped arguing and stared back at them.  Angel flung the door open.

“Aren’t we supposed to be having a meeting?” he demanded.  Spike threw himself into a seat and glared at Angel.

“You’ve been sniffing too many unicorns,” Gunn said to Harmony as they returned to the office.

Later, upstairs in the penthouse Angel and Spike lay in bed.

“Hate you,” Spike said, his voice muffled into Angel’s shoulder.

“Hate you more,” Angel replied.  His hand was carding through Spike’s hair while the other traced random designs on Spike’s back.

“You healed up now?” Spike asked.

“Yep,” Angel said, “you staying tonight?”

“Yep,” Spike said sleepily.

Angel pulled the covers over them and turned out the light so the glow of the city danced across their faces.

“Next time try ducking,” Spike added.

“Next time try staying out of my way,” Angel said.

Spike snorted and pressed closer.  Angel dropped a kiss on his head and they both fell asleep with smiles on their faces.
