The Truth

“I’m leaving, Bobby.”
He looks over to Marie, watches her shuffle her feet on the floor uncomfortably. When she opens her mouth to speak again he tries to shut her out.
“You don’t love me.”
Not a question. He wants to say of course I do or don’t go, give me another chance. Except that he can’t and won’t because if he does Marie wont think twice about staying. He doesn’t want that. So he tells her the truth.
“No.”
The one I love left me a long time ago.
