Love on the High Seas: You Are My Eyes

You are my eyes.
Did you know that, Cole?
Did you know that when I lost my eyesight?
Did you know that you already were
When you offered to be my eyes?
Could you have ever guessed
That you have been my eyes
Since day one,
When you rescued me
And brought me into this world,
Your world?
You were my eyes when I could not see,
But you were also my eyes on that fateful day
When I lost my Mother and Grandmother, thought I had lost my sisters,
And wanted . . . even craved . . . to lose myself.
You were my eyes when we searched for my sisters
For you saw past the fear
To the reality of the situation
And you gave me hope and courage.
You gave me comfort,
And that was the day I found the shelter
I'd been searching for all my life
Though never once knowing.
Your strong arms offered me
The sweet haven of your protection,
A home that has never once let me down
And that I know will always be there for me
Whenever I am in need.
You have seen me and stood with me
Through the worst times of my life, Cole,
And you have taught me so much.
You have taught me to have hope and courage
Even in the darkest of times
For there is always that
Small sliver of rainbow
That will come shining through.
Through your eyes, Cole,
I have seen the truth of my life and my sisters'
And have learned the reality of the world we live in.
I know now that it is not
Our humanity, our religion, or even our species
That make us who we are.
It is our hearts instead
That dictate what we are --
Good or Evil --
And thus who we are
For it is the feelings of the heart
That always matter in the end.
I have learned all this and more
Through your eyes, Cole Turner,
Those same enchanting eyes that first gazed into mine
When I thought my world was over
Though, in truth, my life was merely beginning anew.
Though I know not what tomorrow might bring,
I look forward to it as I hold
Steadfastly to your hand and our love
For I know that,
Whatever terrible dangers or exciting discoveries
Await us in the future,
We can and will face them together
Because nothing can stop or change our love
For you are my eyes, my love, my soul, my everything,
And I, and all that I am, is eternally yours!
