Love on the High Seas: Dreams and Reality
by Pirate Turned

As a child,
I dreamed of Pirates.
I dreamed of love
And yearned for adventure.

Then I rescued a boy.
I grasped hold to his secret,
Clinging it tightly to me
And hoping that, one day,
His secret would prove
To hold adventure for
Both of us.

Had I known then what I know now,
I doubt I would have had such dreams.
Oh, yes, I wanted adventure and romance,
But not the terrors I would come to see.

Still, as we grew older,
And he turned to a man
And I a woman,
My dreams changed again.

This time, I dreamed of him,
Of telling him the secret
He'd forgotten long ago,
Having him whisk me away
From the dull and drab life
Of a Governor's daughter
To the open seas
Where he would teach me
Oh so much! Alas, Will was even shyer than I!
I saw the longing in his eyes every day,
But I feared he would never come to me!
After all, it was all I could do
To simply get him to call me Elizabeth!

But then, that fateful night came,
And the Pirates stole me away,
Believing that I was the key
To ending their curse.

At long last, Will came for me,
But he did not come alone.
He came with the great Captain Jack Sparrow,
Who I had read about many times before.

Even then, I could see the hero
Lurking beneath the Pirate,
And I could see the Pirate
Coming out in my own hero.

Never in a million years, however,
Would I ever have began to suspect
That hero and Pirate might come together . . .
That I was not who Will craved . . .
That he had fallen head over heels
For the same man I once fantasized about!

When I did at last find out,
I was shocked, thinking I had lost
My entire world and that all I had
Ever known was a lie!

My home was gone,
All my friends and family save two were dead,
And those two, I felt, had betrayed me
Though never meaning to.

I went through Hell that night,
But the next day came with
A startling surprise and marvelous discovery.
I was not alone,
For as a I sat alone and thought myself
Lost, miserable, and most pathetic,
He came to me!

He was there for me
When no one else was.
He made my tears disappear,
My frown vanish,
And my smile be returned!

He came to me
When no one else cared.
He made me smile, laugh,
And dream once more.

In his smile, I found warmth.
In his arms, I discovered safety.
In his presence, I felt comfort.
In his embrace, I dreamed a new.

I now know that I was
Almost completely wrong.
It's true that Jack and Will
Never meant to hurt me,
But what I thought was
Lies and false hope,
When Jack and Angel
Tried to persuade me
That there was some one else
Out there waiting for me,
I know was right.

Will was a dream, a fantasy.
Our romance was never to come true
For he was meant to be with Jack
And I with Autolycus.

With Autolycus, Will, Jack,
And my new-found friends,
I will take my life
And turn it around.
I will take my dreams
And transform them from
Mere fantasies to reality.

In Autolycus, I have found
My one true love at long last,
And beside him and the rest,
I will learn and I will sail
The high seas as the Piratess
I've always yearned to be!

The End
