The Wreck Of Ihe Enterprise-D
by juls Heath

The legend lives on from the Academy on down
to the barrens between distant clusters.
The frontiers are said to be one step from death
and take all of the strength you can muster.
A distress call was made, they had people to save
and the Enterprise left on a mission
Their lives all depended on how they defended
the station forced into submission.

With a full ready crew, they had a job to do,
Another errand of mercy.
An El Aurian was found and they brought him around,
Unaware he was acting adversely.
With evidence to back a Romulan attack
and a search for trilithium compound,
a mystery true, they had barely a clue
to analyze what little they'd found.

Now all must agree she was the flag of the fleet
while she lasted past peril of reason.
With the luck of the best, she out-shined all the rest,
her crew and good captain well-seasoned.
The android they said on emotions was fed
that day as they checked out the station.
Caught completely off guard, he was laughing too hard,
to heed the impending situation.

When Soran showed up, they ran out of luck.
Could this be the end he was feeling?
He took Geordi away in a phaser display
that left the poor android a-reeling.
Not a second to lose, or an option to choose,
they had to leave Geordi behind them.
The shock wave dispersed and the station was crushed
and they chased the Klingons to find him.

But Lursa and B'etor still wanted more,
than to just have the ultimate weapon.
To destroy Enterprise, they use Geordi's visor
and waylaid a trap she would step in.
The data came slow, but finally the code
came over the views they were stealing.
With shields penetrated, they would be devastated
and the damage sent Red Alert pealing!

But Riker and crew knew a trick or two
and looked for a weakness to lean on.
In charge of the ride with Picard planetside,
he had to get rid of those Klingons!
Data forced them to cloak so their shields wouldn't work
and the Klingon ship was destroyed.
With a coolant leak and an imminent breech,
E-Vac could not be avoided.

The researchers all say they'd have made it that day
with just a few seconds behind her,
but the fiery explosion of the warp core blowing
hit the saucer and forced them to land her.
They were out of control with a planet below
and it was up to Deanna to guide her.
The android yelped and he tried to help;
Over miles they attempted to slide her.

Does anyone know where the love of God goes
when the ship is exploding around you?
How can you survive when the walls come alive
and the air is so thick, it could drown you?
When they came to a halt and the last beam had dropped,
and they finally finished the crashing,
one look around at the ship on the ground
said they'd taken a terrible lashing!

Now the Captain didn't know 'cause he was still down below
when his good ship and crew were in peril.
A planet would die, he must keep them alive
and it took all the help he could herald.
But Soran had won, kept him under the gun
and the weapon was fired from the planet.
He destroyed the sun and in the Nexus was flung,
but Picard didn't quite understand it.

Then Guinan appeared and she made it clear
that he had to get out of the Nexus.
To get what you want took no more than a thought,
in the end, serving only to vex us.
A temporal rift, it could put him adrift
at any moment of choosing.
No reason or rhyme, an anomaly of time
and that's all that he would be losing.

The legend lives on from the Academy on down
to the most distant corners of space:
A union was formed, of two captains was born,
a mission to save a doomed race!
The frontiers are said to be one step from death
and Kirk gave his life on that mission.
Without Spock and Bones, he was finally alone
and knew this would be his last decision.

In a pristine room far removed from the doom
that was witnessed that day on Veridian,
adding fuel to the fire of the funeral pyre,
Kirk truly had died for no reason!
The Enterprise-D was a pile of debris
and not even worthy of salvage,
but their sacrifice had saved millions of lives
who weren't even aware of the carnage.

With the Old Girl at rest, they searched through the mess;
a final walk over the decking.
With some of the crew, she had died that day, too,
in the thundering impact of wrecking.
But as legends all go, her name was bestowed
to a new ship on the horizon.
You can't keep her down, even run in the ground!
One might say, she's too enterprising!
