Blood-Red

Summary:

I wrote this little poem to: A)  prove to myself that I can write a slashy poem that doesn't suck; and B) to  get the dues-stress out of the way as quickly as possible. :)
And, uh, be warned: it's a death poem. (I'm actually amazed that this is  possible, but...) And my dear muse, Lumpy, has unionized; thus, she demands  feedback. You wouldn't want her to strike, would you? <g>

Work Text:

Blood-Red
By Rebekah Black

Red is the color of roses
And of valentine's day hearts
Of Lust, and Anger,
And sweet joyful Passion
But, oh, it's the color of blood
Sweet life itself is bloody, bright red
I know this most truly as I watch it flow
Expelled from the body of my lifemate
His eyes are dark blue, fathomless
Watching me worriedly
Soft pink lips seem ready to open, to free me from blame -
I don't deserve the absolution. He seems so sad,
Sad for me - I'm not the one dying!
Warm hand clutched desperately in mine, but
The heat still ebbs, steadily.
Long, curly, silky brown hair under my hand
Brown quickly turning to RED
Sirens shriek, too distant to matter
His breath still warms my face - our lips, pressed together
Still warm me, heart and soul.
Yes, deep-red blood is the color of life -
But mine is gone.
