Running Out of Days

Summary:

What happens when Salene finally realizes how she truly feels?

Work Text:

Salene sighed, as she walked into her room, and took a seat on her
bed. The day had been long, and she was so glad that it was over.
Getting comfortable on her bed, Salene leaned back, and started to
drift off, when there was a knock on her door. Wondering who would
be up this late, she quickly got up, and she ran to the door, opening
it, to come face-to-face with Ellie. Salene just stared at the blonde.

"Ellie, what is it? What's wrong?" She asked, ushering the younger
woman into her room. "Salene, we really need to talk, about what
happened yesterday." Ellie said, and then she took a seat at the
table that was in her friend's room. Salene nodded, and she closed
the door to her room, and took a seat in the chair that sat opposite
Ellie. "What's wrong Ellie?" Salene asked, feeling sick all of a sudden.

Ellie looked at Salene. "Salene, I can't keep waiting for you to make
up your mind. Either you want to be with me, or you don't want to.
But you need to make up your mind soon, because I don't appriciate
being yanked around all of the time, whle I wait for you to take you
time and make a decision about where we stand." Ellie said, and then
she fell silent, looking at the other woman. Salene nodded, and sighed.

"Look Ellie, I really like you, and I care for you, but you need to give me
some time. I'm new to this whole lesbian thing, and with you pressuring
me to go out with you, well, it's making me not want to be with you at
all." Salene admitted softly. Ellie got to her feet, and she looked at her
friend. "When you make up your mind, then come find me, Sal. I can't
wait for you forever." Ellie said softly, and then she left the room again.

Salene sighed softly, and then she laid back in her bed falling asleep. When
she woke up the next morning, her feelings were still the same. Salene was
scared that everything woluld be different, if she chose to live that kind of
lifestyle. However, if she didn't, Salene was more than sure, that she would
lose Ellie as a friend forever. Because even though she was confused, Salene
knew one thing. If Ellie was in her life, they couldn't just be friends anymore.

Getting up, Salene went about her day. She saw Ellie twice in the morning,
as they gathered with the others in the cafe for breakfast, and then again
when there was a meeting called, about what they were going to do to help
get rid of the headsets. Salene volunteered to help go out and collect them,
and she was surprised when Ellie did the same. As they got up, and left the
cafe, and then walked out of the Mall, several minutes later, Salene sighed.

"Why are you doing this?" She asked, as they began to collect headsets from
some of the others tribes. Ellie looked at her. "Salene, if I want to help out,
what concern is it of yours, if I just want to help out? I mean, you made it
pretty clear that you're unsure of what you want, so I'm not going to bring
it up anymore. I'm going to just keep to myself, and let you figure out what
and who it is that you want." Ellie said, and she grabbed another headset.

Salene was silent for a moment, as she let what Ellie said, process in her
mind. The other woman was willing to wait for her, though she knew that
Ellie wouldn't wait for her forever. Salene sighed, not knowing what to do.
She was unsure if she was ready for this big change. Hell, Salene wasn't
even sure if she was ready to admit it even to herself she was a lesbian.
A moment later, Ellie walked up to her, and placed a headset in the bag.

As they finished rounding up as many headsets as they could, both women
started back to the Mall, lost in their own thoughts. Ellie was thinking about
what was going to happen. She wondered if Salene would ever get over her
fear, and admit that she had feelings for her. Salene was wondering if she
would be able to love Ellie, and if she would even be able to tell the others
about how she'd changed. Salene sighed, and pushed her hair out her face.

As they reached the Mall, the two women brough the bag to the cafe, where
Amber and Jay were sitting talking, and they left their two bags on the table,
before both going their own ways, to their won rooms. Ellie entered her room,
and she fell onto her bed, wondering if she was completely crazy about what
she felt for Salene. What if the other woman wasn't gay at all? What if I was
mistaken? What if she kissed me out of pity? Ellie thought, and she felt sick.

Salene walked into her room, and sat down on the floor by her mirror, looking
at herself in it. It wasn't that she was trying to bevain, it was only that she
wondered if she looked any different, than she used to. "Do lesbians look any
different than normal people do? I mean, straight people..." Salene muttered
softly. Moments later, making up her mind, Salene got up, and left her room,
going to Ellie's. As she reached Ellie's room a few minutes later, she knocked.

When Ellie answered the door, she was surprised to see Salene standing there.
"What is it, Salene?" Ellie asked, worried that something might be wrong with
her friend. "Is something wrong?" She asked, getting nervous. Salene shook
her head. "No, nothing is wrong, not anymore. Not after I do this..." She said,
and then pulled Ellie close, and kissed the other woman sweetly on the lips.

Ellie pulled away from Salene, and stared at the other woman, surprised. "Sal?
What made you change you mind?" She asked, wondering what suddenly came
over the other woman, to make her change her mind so quickly. Salene smiled
softly. "I just, I needed to think about something, and I need to understand a
few things, before I could admit to myself, who I am." She said softly to Ellie.
Ellie nodded, still not understanding what was going on here. Salene laughed.

Salene laughed softly. "Ellie, I want to be with you. I love you, and want to
be able to be there for you, always. And I want you to be able to be there
for me, forever and always..." Salene said. Ellie nodded, and this time, she
pulled Salene to her, and kissed the other woman. Pulling out of the kiss a
moment later, Ellie asks, "What made you change you mind?" Salene laughs
softly. "I knew you wouldn't wait for me forever, I was running out of days."

The End.
