End of the Line

Summary:

What happens when Clay ends his relationship with Aiden?

Work Text:

"This is the end of the line, Aiden. I won't be your toy any longer. I'm a man. I have needs
and wants too, ya know." Clay said, trying to stay calm. Aiden sighs. "I'm sorry, Clay. What
do you want me to do? I'm trying here, really, I am. I have so much going on in my life right
now, that something in my life has to give, and sadly, it has to be you." Aiden said softly to
his boyfriend. Clay stared at his boyfriend in disbelief. Aiden was breaking up with him. He felt
like this was a bad dream.

Part of Clay wished that it was a bad dream, but no such luck. Getting up, he looked at Aiden.
"Fine, we're through. It was your choice though, Aiden, to break up. Just remember that later."
Clay paused. Moments later, he walked over to Aiden, and kissed his now ex boyfriend, on the
cheek. Then, Clay walks out the door, closing it behind him, as he headed on home. Aiden was
quite surprised. He just stood there in shock for a while, wondering when he had lost his mind.

It was 2:00 in the morning, as he reached the bottom of the stairs, and his parents and both
of his siblings, came down. Clay looked up, and he saw his mother. She looked alarmed, while
his father and siblings looked curious. "Clay what are you doing? Why are you just coming in?"
Paula asked, concerned. Clay looked at the ground. "A... and I... broke..." Paula looked at her
son, confused. "What did you say?" She asked, waiting. Clay sighs. "I said, Aiden and I broke
up."

Glen turned to Spencer. "Look what you have done. This is all your fault. You turned gay, and
now you're turning Clay gay. What is your problem?" Glen asks, clearly disgusted. Spencer got
in Glen's face. "No Glen, what is your problem? I'm a lesbian. Just accept it, and move on with
your life. Nothing you say or do is ever going to change the way I that feel, or the way that I
am." Glen stared at his sister. "What if I said you were dead to me? What would you do then?"

Spencer ran upstairs, upset at Glen's words. Arthur stared in confusion at his son. "Glen why are
you being cruel to your sister?" "Because she's gay!" Glen said, as if it justified his words. Clay
too, went upstairs, unable to handle the argument any longer. He left, just as he heard his mom
come to Glen's rescue. "Arthur, it's not Glen you should be angry with, it should be Spencer and
Clay. Do you honestly like the fact that one out of our two sons is gay, and our only daughter, is
a lesbian?"

Spencer looked at Clay, who sat down on her bed. "I never knew that you were gay. Why didn't you
tell me? You know that I am. You also know that I'm not like mom or Glen. So why'd you feel the need
to hide who you are, from me, and from Dad? You know that he loves us no matter what, even if mom
and Glen don't." Spencer said softly. Clay nodded."That doesn't matter anymore Spencer. Aiden and I
broke up. We were fighting way too much."

Spencer began to grow alarmed. Clay, noticing his sister's reaction to his words, quickly clarified. "I don't
mean with our fists. I mean with our words. We would argue and fight all the time, and since we always
have mom and dad fighting at home, I figured that I didn't need to be around Aiden, in just another tense
atmosphere, when the one here, is already more than troubled enough." Spencer nods, and she motioned
for her brother to go on.

Clay shook his head. "There is nothing else to say, really. I decided that if I wanted to remain safe, I would
no longer date Aiden, and put myself in a situation that was uncomfortable, to say the very least." Clay said
really softly, hopping Spencer understood where he was coming from. Spencer nodded. "I understand. Ashley
and I face similar problems everyday, since we realized that we wanted to be together." Spencer said softly.

Clay looked at Spencer. "The real reason that I broke up with Aiden, was that I am growing tired of being his
toy. I am a person too, and I deserve to be treated like one. When I am with Aiden, I am like a little puppy
dog, who just chases after him all the time, everywhere he goes, and I don't want to be that man anymore."
Clay said. Spencer nodded, and then she hugged her brother tightly. "I love you Clay, always. I want you to
know that."

[Spencer said, wanting to comfort her brother. Clay nodded. "I know Spence. I know, and thanks. You and
Dad, and the only ones that I feel I can really trust, along with Chelsea and Sean. I'm glad to know someone
still cares." Spencer hugged Clay again. "Mom and Glen still love us. They haven't quit loving us just because
we are gay. They're just unable to deal with the fact that we are gay. Maybe someday that will change, and
they will be able to handle it."

Clay nodded. "I hope so, because I really like being a part of this family. I wouldn't want to be shipped back
into foster care, just because my adopted mother couldn't handle the fact that I'm gay." Spencer looked at
her brother. "No matter what, Clay, you are a part of this family, and you always will be. So don't worry. We
are a family, and we are going to stay together. Nobody is going to ship you off to anywhere." Spencer said
softly. Clay sighed softly.

There was a noise, and both of them looked up, to see Glen standing in the doorway. 'How much had he
heard?' Clay silently wondered. "How much did you hear?" He asked his brother, even though he was very
afraid to know. Glen looked at Spencer, and then at Clay. "I've heard enough to say that no matter what,
you are always going to be a Carlin. Even though I don't understand or support the way you're choosing
to live, you are my brother, so I'm here for you."

The End.
