Hospital, Friday night
"Hi, Judy."
"Hi, Annie."
"Judy, the patient in room 852 has been released?"
"Yes, Annie."
"But his surgery was so recent. It might have been better if he'd stayed longer."
"I know, but he said that his friend could take care of him at home."
"The doctor agreed?"
"Annie, you have no idea how persuasive his friend is. I was frightened just of his look."
"Well, Judy, all I can say is he's going to need a lot of patience."
In the loft
"Ah! It's so good be at home, my home, our home."
"Yes, babe, I'm happy to have you back here, at home with my love."
"I love you, Jim."
"I love you too, babe. It's probably better you go to bed and rest your leg, the doctor said that you shouldn't put too much strain on your leg after just having surgery."
"I know, I know."
"Anything you need, you only have to ask for, love."
"Thanks, Jim. Um, Jim?"
"Yes, love?"
"I'm famished, you can you make something for us?"
"Yes, babe."
"Jim?"
"Yes, lover?
"I need to go to the bathroom."
"Yes, love, I'll help you."
As the weekend at the loft went on:
"Jim?
"Yes, sweet?"
"Jim?"
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Jim?"
"Yes, love?"
"Jim?"
"Yes, lover?"
"Jim?"
"Yes, babe?"
"Jim?"
"Yes, Chief?"
"Jim?"
"Yes, Blair?"
"Jim?"
"Yes, Sandburg? What do you want now?!
Monday, at the hospital
"Hi, Judy."
"Hi, Annie."
"Annie, these flowers are for you."
"For me?"
"Yes, they arrived early this morning."
"Who sent them?"
"I don't know, you should read the card."
Annie smiled and said, "They were sent by Jim Ellison, the friend of that difficult patient in room 852."
The two nurses couldn't contain their laughter.
"Poor boy, I think he had a very tiring weekend."
They looked at the card again. It read:
For Nurse Annie,
I wish you a Merry Christmas and an excellent New Year, you are an angel, thanks.
Jim Ellison.
