    A Novella. When the Enterprise is unexpectedly ordered to drop its current surveys and warp to the Romulan Neutral Zone and wait, they are unprepared for the events that unfold when they intercept a ship fleeing the surface of Syntar, a mining planet just inside the Zone. Aboard the ship, they encounter a Free Trader, a mysterious man who claims to have information that could jeopardize the security of the federation. The only problem is, his proof is still within the Neutral Zone. So in a covert mission, he and Commander Data return to the planet’s surface. Where Data learns that Jared Warren contains more secrets than simply those concerning federation security, secrets concerning the android’s own past.
