Angelic

Sublimely happy.

He realized that for the first time in his life, he was totally and completely happy. And he even knew why. He still found it hard to believe, but it was true.

The hole in him was gone, filled with Arthur Stuart, this time for good. Ten years ago, Arthur had filled it, for one night, on that rooftop. And he had been stupid enough to let him go; afraid that what had happened once before would happen again. He had thought Brian Slade would fill it too, and for a short while he had somewhat, but not completely, and not for very long. And every little bit that Brian left open, Curt Wild had tried to fill with booze and drugs, just like he had before with heroin.

It had gone on for the past ten years, trying to feel the way he had that night, with that sweet, angelic boy who had trusted him so implicitly. Now, seven months after they had seen each other at the bar and Curt had tracked him down, things were different. There were no cracks or vacancies left in his soul, he was filled completely by his perfect complement. He didn't need anything but Arthur. When he drank anything alcoholic now, he wasn't drinking Jack Daniels or scotch in a random bar to forget something. Usually he was with Arthur in a restaurant drinking wine, or trying one of those European beers that Arthur loved. Even cigarettes were losing their appeal. The few that he still smoked each day were the result of nicotine addiction, not the anxiety that before had devoured over two packs a day. Instead of holes, there was a seamless line joining the two, and it was the best thing that had ever happened to him.

He turned on his side, facing the sleeping Arthur in their bed. He watched his love's chest silently rise and fall as he breathed, his pale creamy skin tinged a muted blue by the spill of moonlight that surrounded them, pouring in through the sunlight in the roof (choosing your apartment was a perk of owning the building). As Curt watched him, he couldn't help but almost believe that the shimmering glow surrounding Arthur was more a halo than moonlight.

Arthur stirred a little, and drowsily half opened one eye, seemingly aware that Curt had been looking at him.

"What is it, is there a bee on me or something?" he asked demurely, (except in Arthur's Manchester accent, it sounded more like "whot" and "sumfing")

Curt ran his fingers through the bangs that had fallen sideways over Arthur's hazel eyes. "No, no insects of any kind ya smartass. I was just thinking."

"What about?"

"Just how happy you make me. Go back to sleep."

Arthur snuggled closer to Curt, wrapped his arm around him and sighed contentedly, mumbling, "That's good to know" as he fell back to sleep with a serene look on his face.

Curt played with his hair for a few more minutes, wondering if this boy...man now, had any idea how completely enamored Curt was with him. He kissed Arthur's forehead and moved closer to settle in to sleep "I love you, Arthur."
