(Alternate Season Seven)
(Cordelia/Jonathan- Ch-St)
Setting: My "Not Seeing Red" alternate universe Season Seven AU. In this one, Xander was the one who gave his life to save Buffy when Warren Meers shot him, and he wasn't the last one to sacrifice his or her life to help protect the slayer. Giles and Spike are also gone here, and Angel and Wes have just been killed after Angelus re-emerged over Connor's death and its savage consequences. Here, Andrew Wells was killed as well, due to his addiction to darkmagic, and Jonathan was the only survivor of the Troika, and now in training at the Watchers Institute. Charles Gunn and Fred Burkle are also there now, as are some familiar figures from mainstream Season Seven.

I don't think I should have gone to that bar and watched her getting drunk. I called Doug up in Los Angeles during the evening when I got worried about her and what was wrong with her. Doug said that he'd guessed, and at Cordy was out of harm's way, here. And also, perhaps, the ability to harm others. He told Jonathan that he wasn't imagining any dark reverberations that he was getting from Cordy, and Willow, Tara and he had had to do a warding spell back when they met up with her in Sunnydale. There was something dark and tragic about Cordy's life right now, and Doug sounded regretful that they hadn't been able to tell her at the time. But then, the truth might have hurt her far too much- imagine telling someone that she had been used to plot the death of two of her closest friends.
Jonathan wondered about her as Lessa Norton, Gunn and Kennedy helped Cordy into the car, and Jonnie shivered as he heard the music from the distance. For some reason, it foreshadowed what was going to happen to all of them as the world raced toward an unforeseen but imminent apocalypse, and the shadow was threatening to blot out every love and hope that all of them held dear. Not for the first time since she'd shown up at the Watchers Institute, Jonnie wondered if Cordelia was going to make it when the storm did break over them, or whether she'd already given up her own hope.
Or again, was there something she wasn't telling any of them?
