I sit here holding my daughter wondering where my Guide is. Today is the fifth anniversary of his disappearance. I can see my two sons playing and hear my wife puttering around in the house. She knows to let me have my solitude. Abby, the best thing that ever happened to me besides Blair, seems to know exactly when to leave me to myself or give me a little nudge when I need it. I meet Abby when she did a profile on a case for the Cascade Police Department and I fell in love. She didn’t seem to feel the same way or so I thought. Learning that she felt the same way was a wonderful feeling. Blair was happy for me. I had told him that many times after meeting Abby that I was happy and couldn’t think of my life being more full of wonderful friends and family. Blair just smiled. I look up to see my wife stand in the back doorway to our home. This home which we both fell in love with when we were out on a drive on lazy Sunday. We had brought Blair with us. He had loved the house to. He had said that he could see a lot of little Jims and Abbys running around in the backyard. We had all laughed. I wonder what he would think of the two little Jims and one Abby that we have now. My Guide along with me had told Abby about my senses. I had thought it a little strange that she didn’t give it a second thought. She loved me just as I was heightened senses and all. Blair had then instructed Abby on what to do for me whether it was for a zone or not. She had taken to the guide things and Blair was excited about that. This didn’t mean that my guide was going to be replaced as such. This meant to him that there was someone else out there to watch out for me. Abby was wonderful. A few months after telling her about my senses I asked her to marry me. And here we are six years and three kids

later. Abby’s best friend Holly came to live near us and help out with all the wedding preparations along with Megan Conner. Conner was in her element I think. After having planned her own wedding she felt like an expert on wedding plans. She was an asset to Abby. Especially sense Abby’s family lived in Oklahoma. Holly took an instant liking to Blair. And Blair to Holly. They became inseparable. They married six months after we did. And then six months after that Blair disappeared. We don’t know why. We do know very little. We know where his car was found and that there was no foul play. Simon came over the day of the disappearance and told us that

Blair had disappeared and that there was no sign of him. Holly cried for weeks. She had just found out that she and Blair was to have a little one of their own. Simon couldn’t take much more of that and went and brooded. He blamed himself that Blair had disappeared. Over the years the leads were few and far between. Rafe, H., and Joel all got married and had families of their

own. They also were supportive of Holly and the baby. Blair’s son looks just like him and is just as spoiled rotten. Especially by his Uncle Simon. I think that is Simon’s way of making up to and for Blair. We all try to. Joel and Cameron were over the other day and were discussing having Holly

let them take Brannon for a week so that she could have a vacation of her own. She has done so much to try to raise her son by herself. Sometimes when Abby, the children and I are over at her house I catch her looking at the wedding picture of her and Blair. I miss him too. I miss the

friendship, the laughter, seeing him everyday, and growing as a cop.

I shake myself out of all the memories and the sadness that overwhelms me now. I hug my newborn daughter to me and think that Blair should be here to see his godsons and goddaughter. He should be here to see his son grow up. Naomi decided a few years after Blair had disappeared to move to Cascade and be near Holly and her grandson. Naomi enjoys being with Brannon. She

has been a help to Holly, too. I don’t know what Holly or any of us would have done if Naomi hadn’t moved to Cascade when she did. It seemed that Holly stayed depressed most of the time. I wouldn’t blame her one bit. Abby saw my depression and sought to bring me out of it. I am grateful. I wouldn’t be sitting here holding Alexis or seeing Brennan and Brayson running

around the backyard yelling and screaming like only four year-olds can do. Brennan is our little Sentinel. Abby and I found out when the twins were about two or three. We along with Holly found out that Brannon is his Guide. We are raising the second generation of Sentinel and Guide. Blair would have been joyful. He would probably have tried to research it. Maybe. Abby comes

towards me to get our baby girl. I hand her off to her mother who immediately takes a seat and starts feeding our hungry little beauty. Alexis looks like her mother. All blonde curls and blue eyes. Abby just laughs and says that her hair will be dark like her daddy’s. I believe that she possiblely has her daddy wrapped around her little finger. I hear a car pull up and know that it is Holly and Brannon come to visit. I just sit beside Abby and wait for our visitors to come around back. Abby knows by my body language that our visitors are friends. Another two cars drive up. I bet its Simon and his new family. About a year or so ago Simon finally got married for the second time and he and his wife are expecting their first child. I don’t know if Daryl is excited by that or not. I’ll have to ask him next time I see him. And then Joel, Cameron and their two little ones round

the corner. My two rambunctious little boys come up too greet our friends and take the children out to their play area. I smile at Holly. She is looking tired.

"Holly, come sit by Abby. You need to rest." I say getting up from my place on the swing.

"Thanks Jim."

"Your welcome."

Holly looks over to my little girl and coos at her. I wonder if seeing Abby with Alexis hurts knowing that she won’t have anymore. I hear the phone ring above all the chatter and yelling kids. I get up to greet our friends with a smile and a handshake. Abby just smiles at me when I look back at her. She and Holly are sharing secrets I suppose. Secrets of motherhood for which myself and the guys of Major Crimes are not included in. Simon looks at me and questions me with a look on his face and in his eyes.

"I miss him, too, Simon. I know Holly does and wishes that Brannon knew his father. Let’s not think of the bad and celebrate Blair and his life." I answer the unspoken question.

"You are right. We should celebrate his life." Simon wanly smiles.

I hear the chatter and footsteps of Megan and her family. They round the corner as I walk up to the gate to greet them. Megan pats my cheek in greeting and asks where the new addition to the family is. I hear two other cars down the street and wait for H. and Rafe to come join us at this

celebration. We have had a tradition since Blair disappeared to celebrate his life. I know he would have wanted that way. Something in me knows that he is not dead but even with that knowledge there is still no trace of my Guide. As the rest of the Major Crimes family joins Abby and me we

start the barbeque up and the wives coo over Alexis. She is going to be spoiled. She has been the only baby born in the last two years. Rafe’s little Blair comes over and holds his arms up to me for me to hold him. I of course can’t say no and take him in my arms. As Blair, Jr. and I walk around the yard I seem to listen for that old and familiar heartbeat. I know its not there but it

is hard not to listen for it among all these people. Abby notices and shakes her blonde curls at me. She is letting me know that I need to stop what I am doing and get on with living in the here and now. She’s right. Blair wouldn’t want me to stop living.

"Hey, Simon, is Daryl coming?" I ask my boss and friend.

"Yeah, he said he had something to do before he got here." Simon just smiled.

"Oh and what’s that. His girlfriend coming with him. Or is he bringing just a friend." I laugh at Simon’s expression at the mention of his son’s latest conquest.

This latest girlfriend of Daryl’s was not what the doctor ordered. Daryl missed Blair just as much as Holly and I did. His disappearance had affected Daryl in the deepest way that it can with someone as young as he was when Blair disappeared. Blair had made a lasting impression on

Simon’s son and a good one. My Guide had encouraged the young man to go for his dreams and let Simon be apart of that and to talk to his father more about his needs and wants. It helped the young teenager. And speaking of the devil Daryl walked around the corner of the house and greeted his father and stepmother before coming to greet Abby and me. Abby enjoyed the young

man as much as I did and liked to have him around to help with the children. Daryl enjoyed his time with the twins but also needed his own space which we both respected.
