Aunt Keilani
by Rebecca Lee
"Hey, Uncle Johnny, how is she?" Jenny whispered as she walked over.
"She's just sleeping... Now, how did you two get up here?" Johnny
asked with his usual crooked grin.
"We snucked
up." Julie replied as she
climbed in his lap.
"Now, you know you're not supposed to be above the first floor and I bet
you've worried your parents to death." Johnny said.
"We had to check on Aunt Keila-"
"Yeah, nobody tells us nothing and Chris was to chicken." Jenny
interrupted Julie.
"Johnny?... Johnny-"
"I'm right here, Honey... Jenny, Julie, go get the nurse." Johnny
interrupted Keilani as he put little Julie down and
stood up, so Keilani could see him.
Jenny and Julie instantly rushed out of the room and right into their parents
and Doctor Brackett.
"Uncle Kel, she's awake." Jenny said as
Doctor Brackett smiled and walked into the room.
"I'll take Jen to Jo, so you can go in." Chet said and taking Jenny
from
Roy watched with Johnny as Doctor Brackett quickly checked over Keilani, he noticed Johnny stayed right in Keilani's sight and Keilani kept
staring at Johnny as if she was a scared child.
"Well, Mrs. Gage, we need you to stay a couple of days for observation,
but you're going to be just fine." Brackett said as she looked from him to
Johnny, sleepily blinking her eyes.
"So, sleepy... Can't- Can't read." Keilani
said as Johnny walked over and sitting on the edge of the bed, he held her as
she dosed off.
"I'll tell her when she wakes up, Doc." Johnny said with a big smile.
"And thanks, Doc."
"You're welcome." Brackett replied and quickly left.
"Ok, Junior, are you going to explain what's going on?"
"There's nothing to explain, except Keilani was hanging clothes and she stepped on a
rattler-"
"That's not what I'm talking about and you know it?"
"Oh, Keilani's deaf and she has to read lips
that's all-"
"Damn it, Johnny, you know what I talking about... You win a trip to
Honolulu and come back a week later married to girl that none of your friends
even know and on top of that, she acts like a frightened child and you stay
right in her sight as if she is."
him.
"
"Can't or won't?"
"
"Fine."
"What's up with him?"
"Don't ask me." Johnny replied, solemnly.

Later that night, Keilani
awoke to find Johnny lying on the edge of the bed beside her, staring at the
window.
"Johnny, are you alright?" Keilani asked.
"I'm fine, just fine... How about you?"
Johnny replied as he faced her, so she could read his lips.
"Me, I feel clumsy... I've ruined our honeymoon." Keilani
said.
"Oh, Keilani, you haven't ruined anything."
Johnny replied and passionately kissed her.
"Why, Mister Gage, a hospital room is no place for what you're thinking
about." Keilani exclaimed as she broke the kiss.
"I'll try and remember that, but it's going to be
hard." Johnny replied with his usual crooked smile.
"Extremely hard." Keilani
said with a evil laugh as she rubbed the crotch of
Johnny's jeans.
"Oh, Keilani... Baby, not
here." Johnny groaned.
"Why not, I'm well enough and you're definitely up for it." Keilani replied as she started easing down his zipper.
"Keilani, you're- You're crazy... Oh, my God...
You're not... Ahh." Johnny gasped as she deep throated his erection.
"Time for blood." A grey-headed nurse
announced as she burst in Keilani's room.
Johnny instantly leapt from the bed and turned his back as Keilani
jerked the sheet over her head.
"Gage, out! Visiting hours are over and your
little trollop needs her rest." The nurse roared as she ripped the sheet
from Keilani, causing her cry out in fright.
"Gage, this hospital is no place for your whoring!" she continued as
she stormed into the bathroom and returned with a wash-cloth, which she threw
in Keilani's face.
"Now, you just hold on!" Johnny shouted, angrily as Keilani begin to cry. "This just happens to be-"
"Your whore of the week-"
"Johnny, take me home!... Take me home, now!... I'm not staying here more minute!"
Keilani cried as she pulled out the IV.
"Keilani, Baby, you can't go home... Doctor
Brackett said that you have to stay a couple of days, now calm down."
Johnny soothed her as
"Gage, I said out!... You can see your trollop
tomorrow-"
"Mrs. Carson, my office now."
"It's all right, Dix... Oh, thanks." Johnny replied as Keilani cried in his arms.
The next morning Doctor Brackett was informed of the nights events by
"Keilani, I know you want to go home... But
Kelly Brackett is the best Doctor that I know and he says you have to stay, so
you're staying." Doctor Brackett heard Johnny saying as he started in the
door.
"I can't, please Johnny take me home?" Keilani
begged as she kissed him, repeatedly. "Don't make me stay, please take me
home?" She cried on his shoulder.
"Honey, I can't." Johnny sighed, knowing that she couldn't hear his
words and wishing she could.
"Huh-hum," Kel cleared his throat as he
walked in. "Johnny, has Keilani settled
down?"
"Very little, Doc." Johnny replied as he
quickly pulled away from Keilani.
"Keilani, how are you feeling this
morning?" Kel asked as he forgot her deafness
and looked over her chart.
"He wants to know how you're feeling." Johnny said with a smile.
"Fine, but I want to go home... I mean, lying in a hospital isn't my ideal
of a honeymoon." Keilani sighed as Kristy Standley and JoAnne DeSoto walked in.
"You poor thing." Kristy Standley
said as they walked over.
"Honey," Johnny gasped as Keilani almost
fell into off the bed as pulled away from the strangers and Johnny grabbed her.
"it's okay... They aren't going to hurt
you-"
"Please, take me home." Keilani cried on
Johnny's chest.
"Johnny, it's obvious that she's to scared here
in the hospital... I'm going to order a sedative and then we need to
talk." Kel said and quickly left the room.
"Oh, Johnny, I didn't mean to scare her." Kristy Standley
said.
"It's okay, you don't know." Johnny replied as he absentmindedly ran
his fingers through Keilani's silky black hair.
"Don't know what?" Kristy and JoAnne asked at the same time as
"Keilani's deaf and she's a victim of
abuse." Johnny replied, sadly.
"Oh, dear God... Johnny, I'm so sorry." Kristy responded as they
watched
"She'll be a sleep shortly, I'll have another bed
brought in so you can get some rest... Oh, Johnny, I heard
"Dix, can you talk them out of it... Keilani's
so scared, it just might push her over the edge."
Johnny interrupted
"I'll try, but Johnny you babying her isn't
helping."
"Johnny,
"I know, but I can't just leave her alone... Do you know how she got snake
bit, she stepped on it." Johnny replied. "She didn't hear it and I
wasn't there."
"You can't blame yourself, Johnny, it was a
accident." Kristy sighed, knowing how helpless he must be feeling.
"I keep telling myself that, but it hurts so much to see her like
this." Johnny said, sadly.
"Of course, it does... If it didn't, you wouldn't be in love." Kristy
replied, wisely as Doctor Brackett walked in.
"Is she a sleep, yet?" Brackett asked.
"Out like a light, Doc." Johnny replied.
"Good... Johnny, Keilani's so scared here and
I'm afraid it's interfering with her getting the rest that she needs now, so if
you can see it that she gets complete bed rest for the next couple of days.
I'll let you take her home." Brackett said with a smile.
"I've still got several days off, so there's no
problem." Johnny replied with a smile. "Thanks, Doc."
"I'll arrange for a ambulance to take her home,
before she wakes up." Brackett said, happily.
"Kel, you just leave the ride home up to us...
I've got the station-wagon outside." JoAnne
replied with a smile. "That's if it's all right with Johnny?"
"It's fine with me... Thanks, JoAnne."
Johnny said with a smile.
