The X Files put on Peter Pan 3/8 by Cosmikgirlie Chapter 3 "Hey Scully! Scully looked up. Krycek was standing in front of her smiling. She looked at him in a wierd way. "H..Hey" she stammered. Alex stepped closer to her and she could smell the Lynx Effect (!) "You know, you are very attractive for an F.B.I agent," he breathed. Scully stepped back and almost tripped over a table. "Ermm Krycek, no offence but what the hell are you doing?" "Nothing," frowned Krycek. "I just want to get to know you Dana." "Dana...." Alex whirled round. It was Mulder. He gave him a cold stare and said "Exuse me, Agent Mulder but we were having a private convo? Do you mind kinda vacating the premises?" Mulder glared back. "I don't think Scully wants you around her right now. She is meant to be learning her words!" "Oh, I'm sorry Mrs. Scully. I didn't realise she brought her mum around with her everywhere she goes! Oh no...sorry...that must be you!" sneered Krycek. "You know, I've had it up to here with you...why, why did you come here? Eh? No one wants you around." "Please..don't get all high and mighty with me, Fox, you may be able to order Scully and all your other lemmings around here about, but you'll never tell me what to do." Mulder, with fiery eyes, threw himself at Krycek, pushing him to the ground. Scully tried to stop the two as they attempted to strangle each other. Suddenly Marita, having heard the shouting, rushed over to the place of battle. She watched helplessly as Scully screamed at them both to stop it. "Alex, please, just quit it!" said Marita in sobs of tears. Almost immediately Krycek stopped punching Mulder and let go of him. Mulder did the same. Alex sat on the floor, just realising what he had done. As Mulder weakly got up, helped by Marita, Scully just stared at Alex. He was in such a fury, all this hatred built up like he could kill Mulder, he wouldn't listen to Scully screaming for ages for him to stop; but one request from Marita and he stopped in his tracks, forgetting his anger, just for her. ** Skinner stood on the stage, his arms crossed. He was peering down, condescendingly at the cast. "This is not the type of behaviour I expect in this performance. You were acting like teenagers. What on earth came over you?" He stared at Mulder and then at Krycek. Both men fixed their eyes on the floor. "What would have happened if Scully hadn't come along? Eh? You would have killed each other." Scully frowned slightly. She wasn't the one who broke up the fight. "Luckily, I can see what is going on here.....you!" He pointed at Marita. "You're the cause of this, aren't you?" Marita turned pale and tried to speak in her defence. But Skinner wildly interrupted. "You know what, don't even try. I know what you are up to. You tried to get Mulder into trouble before by attempting to kiss him, and this time you forced Krycek into attacking Mulder so he would get into trouble again!" "But..I..." "Listen, I'm not going to allow this kind of behaviour any more. Marita, you are out of this performance." Marita gasped, along with the other cast members. Krycek looked fiercely at Skinner. "Listen, you, you have gone to far now....." "Krycek, you don't seem to understand, she hates Mulder, she's to blame." said Skinner sternly. Scully and Mulder tried to speak up but Skinner's cold eyes told them otherwise. Everyone remained silent. Suddenly Marita burst into tears. "Look, you've got this all wrong, it was my fault, all my fault, so take me out, not her! She's done nothing wrong!" exclaimed Krycek. "I have told you. I have made my decision, so everyone go home. Marita, I'll need to see you about handing over your costume." Marita looked over at a desperate Krycek and some guilty looking faces. "Bye everyone." ** The next day there was a kind of weird, empty silence floating around the theatre. Everyone was just getting on with their jobs and rehearsing. Even Skinner looked miserable, but that could have been because, now that Marita was gone, Skinner was forced to take on her role too. He stared blankly at the pink tutu, leotard and ballet shoes. He wondered if he had made the right decision. Scully walked into the dressing room to sew up her dress which had been ripped in the fight earlier. As she sat down at the sewing machine she realised she wasn't all that sad at all. She still kinda had a grudge against Marita for kissing Mulder and now she felt safer knowing that Krycek and Marita couldn’t hatch some awful plan to ruin the show. She felt a shadow over her and quickly turned round. It was Krycek. "I suppose you're feeling happy now?" he said bitterly. "No, of course not. It wasn't her fault. We all knew that." "Well you didn't seem to bothered at the time, that she was taking all the blame, did you?" he murmured. "Krycek, I couldn't do anything, you saw how mad Skinner was. He wouldn't have listened to me.." "Well, she is going to be in the show, whether Skinner likes it or not." he said with an evil look in his eye. Scully peered at him. "You really care about her, don't you?" she questioned. Krycek darted his eyes to the wall behind her. "No...what..do you mean..not like that..obviously, she is just a comrade..a colleage..we work well together..that's all.." Scully raised an eyebrow. "Do you now?" Krycek's cheeks began to turn pink (something Scully had never seen before and probably something she will never see again!) "Please....you are so childish...like I could ever...please...don't be so...look, stop staring at me..o.k? Look just quit it!" Krycek scrunched up his eyes and walked off in what looked like a girly huff. Scully smiled. "Yup," she said out loud. "He's into her BIG time!" ** Skinner stood on his chair, his clipboard clutched in his hands. He frowned slightly as he peered at the stage. He didn't want to admit it but he didn't think this performance was going to be good enough. If the audience didn't like what they saw, they would be going straight to the director to complain even if he was wearing a pink dress! He watched the actors as they acted out the fighting scene. Krycek was standing to the side, in what looked like a dream, and Mulder was standing a fair bit away, reciting his lines. Every now and then he glanced towards Krycek with an evil glare. Skinner bit his lip. Yes, Peter Pan was meant to hate Captain Hook, but somehow he didn't think this was acting. He reverted his eyes to Scully, standing shyly beside Mulder. She seemed to be thinking of other things, as she stared into space. Suddenly she turned to face Skinner and beckoned him slightly. As the others carried on, she quietly left the stage to come and join Skinner. "Yes?" he asked. "Skinner...there was something I was meaning to ask you about.." Scully started. She paused for a moment and then carried on. "You know how Marita's gone, how you sacked her.." Skinner coughed once. "Yes?" "Well, I think I know why." Skinner peered at her. "What do you mean, it was because of the fight!" "No, you see I know the real reason. I know why you dropped her and didn't want to tell anyone why. You didn't want to shock them that's all." Skinner started to look uncomfortable. "What are you talking about, Scully? I think you should get back to the stage, it's nearly your scene!" Scully stared hard at Skinner. "Look, I know the reason! Mulder told me and I didn't believe him at first, I mean it was so shocking, but now I see that it all fits into place. It's O.K you don't have to lie to me." Skinner's face had turned bright red and he was starting to sweat. She couldn't know! How? "How did you find out it was true?" "I just did. By looking at the way you looked at her told me all I wanted to know, you obviously felt so...." "Please! Don't say it. I know it's shocking. O.K. It happened years back and it was just this one short fling between me and her, nothing serious! It's over now, but it was just so awkward, I had no choice but to drop her." He looked up from the floor. Scully was staring at him, her eyes popping out of her face. "You....what???" she stammered. Skinner looked confused. "But you said you knew..." "About Marita attempting to kill Mulder when they were up in the air..." said an astonished Scully. She paused. "You....and Marita?" Skinner shoved his face into his hands. "Oh nooo....." he whined. Scully couldn't help herself. She started to giggle, then laugh, and finally she was laughing so hard everyone stopped the rehearsal to stare at her. Skinner looked like he wanted to curl up in a ball and die while Scully was on the floor in histerics. Mulder looked at Krycek. "Must be something in the water!" he said. ** Scully decided not to let the information loose about Marita and Skinner as they would probably all tease him, besides she had done laughing so much for a while! Every time she passed Skinner he always turned pink or looked away, the break- up must have really affected him, thought Scully. Maybe he just couldn't take the pace anymore, she chuckled to herself. Since Skinner had revealed all, he had felt too guilty to keep Marita off so he decided the best thing to do was bring her back on the cast. He stood in front of everyone and coughed twice. "Silence, everyone! I have some important news. I have decided to let Marita join the cast again; provided she behaves herself." Krycek looked narrowly at Skinner. "What's with the sudden change of mind? You were all ready to have a heart attack before!" "I just..well..thought that I was a bit harsh.." "You can say that again.." murmured Krycek. "And I didn't fancy the prospect of wearing two pink items of clothing in one evening!" Everyone laughed and accepted Skinner's reasons. All except Krycek. He waited around after everyone had left for the changing rooms, waiting for Marita. When she finally arrived he pulled her to the side. "Marita! I heard about you being brought back into this hell hole!" "Yeah, Skinner's not as bad as we thought after all.." Krycek eyed Marita suspiciously. "You know...that was kinda weird how he axed you for no apparent reason.." Marita darted her eyes away form Krycek's gaze. She shrugged quickly. "I dunno.." "Marita, if there's something you're not telling me, something about Skinner, I think you should let me know, coz we need as much information as we can claim." Marita paused. "O.K Alex, I'll tell you, it's no big deal..really," "Yes?" Marita gulped. She really didn't want to tell him this. "Me and Skinner..there was someting going on..a long time ago..it's completely over now..but the atmosphere between us was well, too much to bear. I guess he couldn't handle it." Krycek was silent. "Alex.." "Why didn't you tell me about this before?" he asked quietly. "I didn't think you wanted to know..I mean..." "You and Skinner, I can't believe this.." "Alex, it's not like we're still going out, this was ages ago, I told you.." "Ermm..I've gotta go, do stuff, you know what it's like...I'll see ya later.." "Krycek, where are you....." But he had left; leaving an upset Marita standing alone on the stage. ** Mulder stood on the stage staring at Scully. Scully stared back. Skinner coughed suddenly. "Well?" he asked. Scully and Mulder both looked sheepishly to the floor. Skinner took in a long deep breath and said "Cut! Right everyone have a break." Most of the cast dispersed out leaving Scully and Mulder alone on the stage. There was silence. Skinner traipsed back onto the stage with a foul look upon his face. "Listen you two. We are doing a performance here and if you children are too immature to handle a kiss, then well, I'm going to have to do some part swapping around." "I'm sorry, Skinner," piped up Scully. "It's just that it's..kinda..wierd..you know.." "Yes..." huffed Skinner. "I'm afraid that that isn't good enough. That kiss is a very big part of the show and I want it to be performed right." "Oh we can do it! Really!" said Mulder. "No, I'm afraid you can't. For some odd reason," he frowned at the two agents, "you can't seem to act very well. No, I have made up my decision. Krycek will take your position, Mulder. Then perhaps we might get a little more action." Scully looked horrified. "But, Skinner, I promise we can so do it, if only you gave us more time..." "I'm afraid you've had all the time I can give you. Mulder, get used to being Captain Hook. You have had practically every scene with him so I know you know his part as well as your own." "Oh, Skinner, please," Mulder pleaded. "I don't want to be the bad guy." He kept on picturing Scully and Krycek together and he didn't like it one bit. "No, I'm sorry, I have made up my mind." Scully peered at Skinner. Yes, he had made up his mind rather quickly. She knew as well as the next person that she and Mulder had the greatest chemistry around; the only reason why she found it so hard to kiss him was because if she started she didn't know if she would stop!. Why was Skinner so desperate to keep them apart..and put Krycek in Mulder's place? As Scully watched Skinner start to argue with Mulder, she felt that it might have something to do with Marita. ** Marita stared at herself in the mirror. She was wearing her pink tutu and leotard. It was baggy: Skinner had stretched it when he last wore it. She almost shuddered, the thought of Skinner naked in this...it made her want to cringe..Why oh why! she asked herself. Why did I get involved with him? But she knew why. She never wanted to admit to herself, but it was because of Krycek. She had seen him with another woman...and just couldn't bear it any more. She threw herself into a relationship with the next person she saw: Walter Skinner. She sighed. And now, it looks like he's playing up again, switching parts, probably so he could see her in this outfit, she thought and smiled. Suddenly Krycek walked in. He stopped abruptly, mumbled sorry and rushed out. Marita felt awful. This is what she had had to live through the last few days and she was sick of it. Krycek didn't even say two words to her, all because of that stupid argument about Skinner. And now, because Alex was playing Peter Pan, she had to have most of her scenes with him. She scrunched up her face as she remembered the exact words used to describe Tinkerbell in the script: "Ditsy, floaty, stubborn, and constantly in love with Peter Pan." Marita sneered. "Story of my life really." she mumbled. Elsewhere Scully was preparing for her first *scene* with Krycek: the very one which weeks ago had given her butterflies and made her feel nervous and excited, now made her want to throw up. "Right, actors on stage please!" called Skinner. Scully braced herself and walked on stage. Krycek was already there, standing and grinning at her. Scully walked forwards and caught sight of a face watching behind a curtain. It was Mulder. "Right, let's hope this time we can get a bit of passion into this moment. And action!" said Skinner. Scully stood, frozen to the spot. I can't do this, she thought. Why can't Mulder be here. Suddenly, Krycek threw himself at Scully almost knocking her to the floor. He grabbed her round the back and shoved his tongue down her throat. Scully tried to breathe, but found it intoxicating: Krycek had had onions for lunch. She heard Skinner shout "O.K, O.K cut! People! Cut!" Finally Krycek pulled away, lipstick smeared all over his mouth. Scully stood, almost falling over, coughing slightly. She looked to the front. Everyone was staring at them. She could see Mulder in the corner of her eye but didn't want to look at him right now. Instead she focused her gaze on Marita who was standing next to Skinner. To Scully's amazement she had tears in her eyes and she walked out, hand over mouth. She saw Krycek also looking at her, concerned. But Scully couldn't think of that right now. She felt sick, and she stunk of onions. ** "Right we're doing it, we're doing it real soon." announced Krycek as he slammed the door. He stared at Marita's back and carried on. "I have waited long enough for this and we have GOT to do it right. Our lives depend on it." Marita remained silent. Finally she turned round. "Krycek..I've been thinking.." "No time to think! We've done all the thinking that was required and now the action should be the only thing on our minds." "No, I've been thinking that..maybe..well, we shouldn't go through with it." Krycek stood still. "What are you talking about?" Marita sighed. "I..well, after everything that has happened, it just doesn't feel right." "We've come so far and you want to back down?? What is the matter with you? Don't you want to be rich? Isn't that the thing you've always wanted?" "The thing I've always wanted is never going to happen.." said Marita quietly, but Krycek didn't hear. "Don't you want to be rid of the cigarette smoking man once and for all?" Krycek stared at Marita. "Or did you have a 'thing' with him too?" He turned away. Marita stood, gobsmacked. "I beg your pardon? I told you that was just a one off thing that happened. Anyway what about you, trying to get into Scully's pants?" Marita raised an eyebrow. "That's is called ACTING. Have you never heard of it Marita?" Marita threw a cold glare Krycek's way. "Look, I don't care O.K? I just don't care anymore." "You're still trying to get back with the old geezer aren't you? That's just sick!" "I am not! Look, don't presume to judge me! You're always doing that. Why can't you be more.." "Listen, I'm not the only one here who pisses people off. You annoy the hell out of me sometimes. Expecially nowadays.. you're always so grumpy, always refusing to have a little fun, what is your problem, Marita? What is wrong with you? Whay can't you loosen up?" "You wanna know why?" Marita stared at Krycek with tears in her eyes. "Because....... I love you!" She then ran out, crying leaving a gobsmacked Krycek in the empty room. ** Scully arrived at the theatre and looked around. She couldn't see anyone. She frowned and looked at her watch. It was 9:30. Oh, she thought, they started at 10:00. She decided to stay there anyway as she had some things to do. As she wondered round the empty hall, she remembered when Mulder had brought her here and showed her all the lights on the stage. That night they almost......but she wasn't going to think about that. She had more important things to worry about, like sewing up her frayed ribbon. She walked into the changing room and sat down at the sewing machine. Almost immediately her mobile phone (cell phone for all you Americans!) started to ring. She picked it up and said "Scully!" "Hey it's me, Mulder!" "Oh hey Mulder!" "Hi! Are you at home coz I'm going to be late in today. I was wondering if you could tell Skinner for me, I would do it myself but you know..he kinda scares me at the moment!" Scully smiled. "Of course, baby Mulder! Is there anything else? Do you want me to change your nappy?" "No, it's fine for now Mummy! I'll see you later!" "Yeah, bye!" She put her phone down and started sewing. Suddenly the phone which was on the desk in the corner of the room started to ring. "Hang on!" called Scully, as she struggled to untangle the thread from the machine. Finally she walked over and picked it up. "Yup?" There was silence. "Is that you Mulder?" "No, it's your worst nightmare." said a low, quiet voice. Scully frowned. "Who is this?" The voice laughed a cold laugh. "Wouldn't you like to know, Dana." "How do you know my name?" "I know everything about you, Dana, where you live, what you do all day. Boy your life sucks. Coming to those stupid rehearsals for that play? However you do look nice in that dress." Scully started to breathe heavily. "Look, if you don't tell me who you are, I will..." "Daaaaaaaaaana. Daaaaaaaana" the voice called. "Stop it! Stop it!" Scully shouted. "Be seeing you soon, Dana Scully" There was some short breathing and the line went dead. Scully held the phone to her chest, her heart beating fast. Who the hell was that? She quickly looked all around her. The place was empty. No one knew she was coming here so early so why did he call here for her, why not her mobile phone? Her hand reached out for her phone to call Mulder. No! she told herself. If she called Mulder, it would only worry him. It's just some stupid prankster messing with her. There was nothing Mulder could do. Suddenly she heard a creak at the front door. Scully reached out for her gun and clasped her hands around it. She listened carefully. She could here someone breathing heavily. She edged towards the door. She stood, aiming her gun at it. Slowly it opened.... ** "Hey Scully..what the hell are you doing?!?" said a startled Skinner coming through the door. "Oh, it's just you! I thought it was someone else" said a relieved Scully. "Boy, I feel sorry for that person! Anyway, we have to get started where is everyone?" "I don't know...erm..Mulder's coming in late." Skinner rolled his eyes. "When is that boy gonna realise that these rehearsals are very serious and the performance is coming up real soon!" Scully snapped out of her gaze. "Yeah, when is the performance?" "Oh, in a couple of weeks." said Skinner, as Marita walked through the door. Scully looked at her. She looked sad, she had for the past few days. Scully frowned. Maybe she wanted Skinner back, she thought!! Then a couple of minutes after, Krycek rushed through the door, and called "I'm here! Sorry I'm late!" As he stumbled in, he bumped into Marita. He gasped. "Oh, I'm sorry." They looked at each other awkwardly and Marita rushed over to the stage to get ready. Suddenly the phone started to ring. Krycek ran to pick it up and moments later came running back saying "Scully, it's for you!" Scully walked over and picked it up. "Guess who!" said a low voice. Scully turned pale. "Please, whoever this is, just leave me alone!" "No! Why should I? I wanna know everything about you Dana!" "Just leave me alone you freak!" shouted Scully as she slammed the phone down. It started to ring again. Scully cursed and picked it up, yelling "Look you..." "DON'T YOU DARE HANG UP ON ME AGAIN OR I WILL KILL YOU!!" shouted the low voice, angrily. Scully's hand started to shake. "Please, just go away!" she sobbed. The voice paused. "Fine, Dana. I will do as you ask. But only when I get your one true love." "My what? What are you talking about?" asked Dana. But the line was dead.
