They met, as agreed, in the rose garden at midnight.

She looked at the three men, her eyes bleaker than the windows of the ruined mansion at her back.

"He said they'd turn him. He didn't lie."

"Did he...hurt you?"

"Remember the Boogeyman, all leering teeth and pointed claws? Cthulu dripping seaweed and shellfish. The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, so sugary sweet. I held on."

"I had to. For him."

"And then...and then...he turned again into something more dreadful than all imagining..."

They waited in breathless horror.

"Louis Tully."

"And that," Janine sobbed into Ray's shoulder, "is how I lost Egon."
