Because You came to Me
By: Cherokeegirl

I lived my, life as through there were no tomorrow
Giving my affections freely
But, I never gave my heart to anyone
I never let anyone see my true feelings.
See that I was afraid, lost and alone.
That was a lesson I learned at an early age.
For, you must never let anyone get too close,
never let them know how you feel,
For then they will know you are vulnerable
they will know they can cause you pain.
But suddenly I saw you.
You were trying to be so strong,
but when I looked into your eyes,
I saw all the pain and fear that I had felt all my life.
My heart reached out to you, telling me that at last
it had found it's true home.
And, I gave it willingly,
Because you came to me.

When you are near me I hear the rhythm of our song
sung in perfect harmony.
It is a song that is new, and yet older than time.
It is our two hearts beating as one,
A beautiful melody,
a song of love that fills my soul,
and weaves around my heart.
I am lifted up and filled with joy,
Because You Came to Me.

I have traveled all over the world.
I thought I had seen all the beauty life had to offer.
But I know now that I have never seen true beauty,
until I looked into your eyes
and saw such perfect love shining through.
Until I saw your smile.
A smile so rarely given to others,
But, you give this precious gift to me freely.
And, I know that I have been truly blessed,
Because you came to me.

I thought I had tasted life.
With its myriad textures, colors and flavors
But until I tasted your lips on mine,
I never knew what life had to offer.
For, now I have a hunger and thirst
that only you can feel.
And, each time I come to your table,
I know that my hunger and thirst will be sated.
I will never feel empty again,
Because you came to me.

At night I lie with you,
And I thank God that I found
this precious gift that is your love.
I smell you, I hear you, I taste you
I touch you, I see you in all the beauty that you are.
I fill my senses with you.
I breathe deeply, and my soul sings with joy.
I have finally found my home,
Because you came to me.
