Requiem Poetry

Archivist's Note: This page existed on the previous archive but could not be recovered. It has been reconstructed from the original messages, but won't be an exact copy of the original.

In response to some post-"Requiem" haiku commentary from Livia Balaban and Janet F. Caires-Lesgold, Savannah (who was RATales Archivist at the time) posted the following:

Hey peoples,

I'm thinking of adding these inspired haikus to the poetry corner on their own "Requiem" page.

However, before I do that, since there are only 4 of them, I was going to make a general request for any other poetry out there languishing on hard drives around the world. Anything that I could add to a solely "Requiem" page.

If there isn't any, then y'all sharpen your pencils and get to it! I don't write poetry, but I love to read it. Any kind of poetry that you'd like to write, be it haiku, prose, or (gasp... I'm almost afraid to suggest this... I remember what happened the last time....) limerick!

Come on, people! If "Requiem" didn't get the juices flowing, I don't know *what* it would take!

The messages that inspired Savannah's request:

From: "Livia Balaban" <liviabalaban@hotmail.com>
Subject: A quick post-finale haiku

Nick Lea, intense. YUM.
Give HIM those eleven eps
David Duchov...who?

"Requiem", pshaw.
Creativity blossoms...
Thank you for the snaps.

And one more for the RaTales crowd:

Supporting Players!
Nick, easily the new lead.
(Can we all say "Spike"?)

Now one for the other side (the rest of us):

She can't be preggers!
Mulder being abducted?
This plot makes no sense!

I'm tempted to form a "denial-only" fanfic list...

Savvy,

You asked for it, so don't blame me, unfortunately I'm not familiar with limericks. This is my first and - I swear - only Mulder poem. Slightly OT but still Requiem-related: <ducks>

Why Mulder left Scully

The fugitive male
Has many tactics on sale
To make her regret he had kissed her.

Weirdo Mulder's recent case
Took him away to outer space!
We know he was after his sister...

OUCH!!!

Here are several. I hope they are acceptable. *g*

Requiem Haikus

Marita, lucky wench
Watches as Alex showers
Alas! We saw nothing...

In prison he waited for
Marita--the icky chick
At least he's free again!

RatGod shoved Cancer Man
Down the stairs he rolled
I deny he killed him.

People still say Alex
killed Pop Mulder and Melissa
I deny that he did.

Beautiful RatGod
I grovel at your feet
I am unworthy of you.

Denial is good. 'Tis fun.
Denial saves the Rat's ass today
Yesterday and tomorrow.

Hope y'awl enjoyed those. *g* There's more where those came from if you did like them. *g*

Luverly work, all.

A quick reminder about haiku format:

5 syllables
7 syllables
5 syllables

Technically, each line should be its own phrase.

And *really* technically, there should be some sort of reference to nature in the last line, but that's going a bit far, methinks.

To sum up (in Haiku, of course):

Five syllables first
Seven describes the action
Five to sum it up

And a couple more for the post-Requiem barrage:

Weekend spent offline
Fearing schoopy post-ep crud
OY, a full In-Box

She's preggers. PREGGERS.
Liv hates soap opera
Kid dies or I do

Chris Keil has written some brilliant ones. I'll ask him if he wants to post them here.

Ha, ha, ha! I'm writing horrible poetry. Requiem spoilers like the rest:

Limerick:

There once was a beautiful Rat,
He worked for an old man who sat,
He pushed the man's chair,
He fell down the stairs,
And on his dead body he spat.

Cinquain (sort of):

Krycek
The Sexy Rat
Escaped from prison
Pushed old smokey down the steps
Angel

Not technically, but formatted like a shakespearean sonnet:

It's been so long since we saw our Rat,
I could hardly wait for the night,
when he returned with glowing eyes like a cat,
And made the whole world seem right.

Once again with Fox,
I was filled with glee,
Marita got him out of that box,
So now he is free,

Seeing Ratboy made my day,
I hope Krycek is here to stay!

K, that's all i could think of at the moment.
~Liz :)

OMG....D'oh! Thanks for the catch, Janet.

Should read:

She's preggers. PREGGERS.
Liv disdains soap opera
Kid dies or I do.

And while I'm at it:

Haiku is simple
Yet I somehow screwed it up
Those who can't do, teach.

Well, you asked. This has the teeniest spoiler for "Requiem," but it doesn't say anything we didn't already know.

Missed you, Sasha dear.
The season has been endless.
"Krycek's in this one!!"

The last line is a quote from me... as my Shipper friends would happily recount all the sweet shipper moments in the episode, I would sit there, really quietly, except for the occasional "Krycek was in this one!"
