The Hardest Part

There is no modern romance. Rube's heard people say courtship rituals have shifted over the years, but they're all the same stories he saw when he was alive. There are still people making mistakes, others being cautious enough to end up making mistakes. There are marriages of convenience and even more of inconvenience. There are people who fall in love with the right person only to find out that one can be perfect for only so long.
Then there are people who fall in love with the wrong person. There are a lot of wrong people at hand, and Rube was once one of them (he's sure Lucy could only think he was unfit for love after how he left them). Now, George is the ultimate wrong person. Too young, too questioning. She pisses him off half the time and, the rest of it, he wants to protect her from the aftershocks of her mistakes. She's too complicated, he's too complicated, it's all way too complicated.
The problem is that the wrong person is usually the hardest to stop loving.
