Vision of Autumn

Summary:

One particularly glorious afternoon, last fall, while driving home, I was inspired to write something. That did it for me. The writing bug had bit me again and I have been writing consistantly ever since. I am curently writing a book of short stories for children and hope to publish it when it is completed.
The short piece that I wrote that autumn afternoon follows. It is just as I wrote it that afternoon and has not been edited for grammer, puntuation or spelling, it is as I put it down on paper that day.

Vision of Autumn
by Bob Bonnell

Silver edged and gray lined billowing clouds fill the sky...sailing
ships...elephants...dragons...mountains and creatures only
imagined in dreams. Electric blue patches break through. Streamers of
sunlight streak to earth from the heavens. A painting more beautiful than
any mortal could conceive.

Autumn breezes create waves in oceans of sun dried meadow grass, muted shades
of wheat, amber and tan. Daubs of reds, slashes of crimson, splotches of
yellow; oak leaves of rust, maple leaves in crimson and gold, sumac on fire,
a thousand shades of green. A few bare trees stand out like skeletons amid the
festival of colour.

The forest floor is covered in a multicolored carpet of fallen leaves that
rustle under foot. The musty smell of decay rises with every step. The
wonderful scent of leaves turning to mould, to bring life anew when
spring arrives again. Tiny creatures scamper beneath the blanket, hunting
for the last of the summer bounty before they retire deeper below to wait
out the coming winter.

The wind blows in gusts, creating miniature tornadoes, snatching up
the fallen leaves and dancing them across open spaces. The autumn wind
washes the air clean and steals the last of the summer heat. Blowing from
the north, the chill brought with the breeze reminds us that summer is
over and winter will soon be with us, covering the land in the silence of
white.

Autumn; the most beautiful, the most wondrous season of
transition; passing us from the dog days of summer to the frigid nights
of winter. When the Mother-Father created the earth, the gift of
autumn was given to us so that we may rejoice in the wonders of nature.
