Work Text:
True Bravery
By: Vinsmouse
I see them watching me,
their thoughts clearly read on
faces of youth.
Tell me, their eyes beg.
Tell me of the glories of war.
Tell me of the bravery,
of the fearless troops,
their innocent faces plead.
To answer the unasked questions with truth,
would take away their innocence.
So I must remain silent,
allowing them to continue
believing war is glorious.
Hiding the truth from young minds,
which could not accept it.
For the truth is...
War is bloody and frightening.
None of the men they worship
are who they believe them to be.
In truth their heroes are not fearless in their bravery;
they are brave in spite of their fear.
