Work Text:
Under The Tree
by Margaret Newman "mereridkat"
I stand here under the tree
Where once you sat with me
I look out across the meadow
And think of you, wondering
Do you think of me?
Once upon a time we were knee deep
In mud, blood and death
I covered your back as you cut a swathe
Through enemy armor, enemy bone
We held the day, and lead the way
To victory, once again.
I stand here under the tree
Where once we kissed
I look out towards the river
Where once we bathed, alone
And I wonder,
Do you think of me?
Does her sweet voice soothe your soul?
Do you rest your head upon her bosom,
And do you find solace between her thighs?
A more appropriate love, to be sure
A less dangerous love, 'tis true
More suitable, more fruitful.
I stand here under the tree
Where once we said good-bye
I thought I saw tears in your eyes
But you said it was just the wind.
I look towards the castle where once I swore
I would not return.
I gaze upon the battlements, and wonder
Do you remember me?
