"Martin, she's trouble."
My father's words anger me. What does he know about Samantha that I don't?
"I'm the Deputy Director. I'm well aware of which agents are red flags, and Agent Spade
is one. I don't want you getting mixed up in her games."
A red flag? I know Jack had an affair with her a couple years ago, but why does that
place her on the black list and not him? He was and is her superior.
"The buzz around you is good, son, don't spoil it."
In this moment I realize my father is only out to protect his reputation, the Fitzgerald
name. If being with Samantha ruins my chances at climbing the ladder of hierarchy in the
Bureau, so be it. That's a risk I'm willing to take.
I glare at my father and angrily leave his office without saying a word.
