Snapshots: Imperfect love

Such an imperfect love, this love I have for my golden warrior. Imperfect, the visions I had of her that first day I set eyes on her silken yellow hair, so like a halo framing the beauty of her wondrous face. Back then I saw none of the savage heroics that keep her and the rest of us alive.
And she needed to be the savage back then. Back before the destruction of a little piece of hell ground called Sunnydale. Pretty sounding piece of ground, Sunnydale. Name brings up images of smiling families and carnival rides. Days in the park and picnics in the golden sunshine.
When in reality it was a place of demons and nightmares. A place of death and terror.
A place better off buried in the fires of hell from where it was spawned.
A place we've all but forgotten.
Standing here in the picture perfect cottage Buffy and I built for ourselves, I can sometimes, actually lie myself into believing that place was all a horrible nightmare. the sound of our child's laughter as he plays with the white and black kitten I brought home for his birthday is heavenly music.
Buffy, is at her favorite pass time nearby, tending her lovely roses. He smile as she catches my eye has lost its hardness, back to that angelic smile that first caught my eye. Only now she smiles just for me and our son. And for the joy that life without demons can only bring.
I saunter across the tidy yard, pausing long enough to hand my beautiful son a candy, and take her in a loose embrace, offering her my own smile.
Her hands are soft on my face as she cups my cheeks, saying "I love you, my Xander."
Its a good life, I think as she leans up to press a wifely kiss on my lips.
