Rest in Pieces

Summary:

What happens when Carly dies, and Elizabeth is all alone?

Work Text:

Let me rest in pieces, Elizabeth. It's over, forever." Elizabeth began to cry silently, as the memory of Carly's last
words to her, before the other woman had died, surfaced in her mind. It was like a bad movie, that wouldn't stop
playing in her head. There was surround sound, and everything, and it made Elizabeth hurt even more. She stood
there crying silently, watching as the casket was lowered into the ground, and everyone was saying a last goodbye.
There was nowhere for her to go now, and Elizabeth felt like she couldn't trust anyone. Nobody knew that she and
Carly had been together.

No one would know, either. It had to stay this way, for she feared if anyone knew that she and Carly had been dating,
and even secretly thinking about getting married, everyone would hate her, and that's the very last thing she wanted.
As she turned around to leave the graveyard, someone called out her name, and Elizabeth turned to see Sonny and
Jason standing there, waiting for her. She walked over to them, wondering what they wanted. When she reached them,
Sonny did a surprising thing, and hugged her, while Jason asked if she were okay. Elizabeth nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine."

It was a lie, but it's not like they could tell. Elizabeth felt Sonny looking at her for a moment, as if he were trying to
read her thoughts. He spoke a moment later. "Elizabeth, would you accompany Jason and me, back to the house? I
need to speak with you about some things, and when we talk, I have a feeling, that you would want it to be private."
Elizabeth, not knowing what else to do, nodded. She looked at Sonny, and then Jason, before turning back to Sonny.
"I'll follow you in my car." When both men nodded, and walked over to Jason's car, Elizabeth leaned against her car,
sighing softly.

She wondered if they knew, about her relationship with Carly. They couldn't know. Even though Carly and Sonny were
best friends, Sonny was second to Jax, as Carly's best friend, surely, she wouldn't have told them, at least, not without
telling her, that she would be telling someone about their relationship. The two of them had worked very hard to keep it
a secret, and now, in one night, everything was ruined. Life really was a kick in the ass. As she got in her car, and follows
Jason, who was driving fast, Elizabeth, tried to think of what they could possibly want to talk to her about.

They pulled up in front of Sonny's house a little while later, and Elizabeth, feeling nervous, took her time undoing
her belt, and getting out of the car. By the time she was finally out of the car, and walking up the steps, Jason and
Sonny were already in the house, were sitting down, and were having a drink, as they waited for her. Elizabeth
walked into the house, and closed the door behind her, taking a seat on the couch, which was empty, seeing as
both Jason and Sonny were sitting in chairs on the opposite side of the room. Elizabeth took a seat, and waited
for one of them to speak.

Sonny slowly put his drink down, and turned to face Elizabeth. "I wanted to make sure you're okay. I know about
the relationship you and Carly had, and before you lose it, and begin to get mad at her, wondering why she would
even tell me, let me tell you, I figured it out on my own, as did Jason. We wondered why you two'd spend so much
time together, seeing as both of your families don't get along." Sonny said, and then he took a sip of his drink again.
Elizabeth laughed softly. "That's the understatement of the century." She said, and it was the truth.

Jason, who had remained silent since they had arrived, finally spoke. "Listen, we are not here to lecture you on your
dating habits. We are here to tell you that Carly really did love you. No matter what it may've seemed like, she really
did love you." Jason got up, and he walked over to a desk that was sitting in the corner. Elizabeth watched him for a
moment, and when he looked at Sonny, she did too. Sonny nods, and Jason opens one of the desk drawers, and pulls
something out. He closed the drawer back a moment later, and holding something, walks up to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth sat there in silent shock, as Jason handed her a medium size box, and set it down on her lap. She then looked
at Sonny, who only nodded, and said, "Open it. Carly wanted you to have it." Elizabeth didn't need to be told twice. She
stood up, and set the box down on the chair, and opened it slowly, wondering what was inside of it.When she opened the
box, Elizabeth was surprised at what she found inside. There were piles of pictures, of her and Carly, when they had been
together. She looked up at Jason and Sonny, not understanding why they would have the box. "...Why?" Elizabeth asked.
Jason spoke softly. "Carly wanted you to know she always loved you."

Elizabeth didn't know what to say. She had always thought that to Carly, she was just a fling, or just someone to
be with since she couldn't be with whom she really wanted, Alexis, or anyone, for that matter. It was weird, yes,
but when they had been together, everything always felt just right, or at least it had, to Elizabeth. Now, well, now
she was finally finding out the truth about how Carly felt, the only thing, was that it was too late. Carly was dead.

Elizabeth thanked Sonny and Jason. She set the box down, and hugged both of them, saying that she wanted to
go home, and continue to look through the box alone, and that she hoped they understood. Both men nodded, and
watched as Elizabeth left. When the door closed, tears fell from her eyes, and Elizabeth shifted the box to her other
side, and got in her car, putting the box in the passenger seat, she drove home, crying all the while. When she got
home, Elizabeth turned off all the lights in her house, and sat down on the floor in the middle of her living room, and
went through the box, the only piece of Carly, that she had left, and it was enough.

The End.
