The Answer
by Jeffrey Patrick
Buffy stepped out of the restroom to find Xander waiting.
"And?" He shifted nervously.
"Negative."
"Negative good? Or negative bad?"
"Good."
"Good. That's good. Right?"
"Yeah." She cleared her throat.
"So now what?"
"Now what?"
"Yeah."
"We're careful."
"Careful."
"Yes. Careful."
"Ah."
"Ah, what?"
"Nothing."
"You didn't...?"
"What?"
"Want me to be...?
"No. I mean...., no."
"Then why...?"
"The ah?"
"Yeah."
"Just... I don't know."
"Yes you do."
"I do?"
"Yes."
"Then what do I know?"
"N-nothing. It's not important."
"It is."
"What?"
"What I know."
"I thought you didn't."
"I do."
"Then what?"
"The negative... not necessarily good."
She smiled. "Why?"
"Because I am not opposed to the idea..."
"Just the timing?"
"Yeah."
"Then maybe..."
"Someday. Definitely."
"Definitely?"
"Yep. Once we've... You know."
"What?"
"Taken the next big, uh..."
"Step?"
"Yeah. That is, if you want to... You know."
"Are you asking me?"
"Depends."
"On?"
"The answer."
"Ah."
"Now you're doing it."
"You have to know the answer?"
"Yep."
"Before you ask the question?"
"Yep."
"It starts with a 'Y'."
"An 'M' actually."
"No, The answer..."
"Starts with a 'Y'?"
"Yes."
"Then will you?"
"What?"
"Marry me?"
"Is that the question?"
"Yep."
"Are you sure?"
"Yep."
"And you need my answer?"
"Hmm-hmm. The one that starts with 'Y'."
"Okay. Ask again."
"Again?"
"Yes."
"Okay. Will you..."
"Marry you?"
"Marry me."
"You'll see."
