Don't I Know You...?
by Mysti

Blair was actually the first one to feel the tingle.

He straightened up in his chair suddenly, and Jim turned toward him, concerned.

//Problem?//

Blair nodded. //There's an unbonded Guide who's about to Recognize his Sentinel.//

Jim lifted his head, automatically trying to pinpoint the pair by sight, then hearing, and finally smell, realizing within seconds that the two weren't in sensory range. He leaned over and placed his hand on Blair's arm.

//Where?//

Blair opened up his mind, letting Jim follow his thoughts to the fourth floor, where two white-hot spots were gravitating toward each other.

//Isn't that...?//

//Yup.//

//But he's already got a Guide!// Jim protested.

//Henri!//

//Apparently not. This is the real thing: Recognition. What he and Henri have...had was just a deep, close kinship.//

Jim shook his head. //That's going to kill H. There's no way his new Guide...his true Guide is going to stand for their relationship.//

//Poor H.,// Blair lamented. He stood up, in doing so, pulling out of contact with Jim, who frowned at the loss of the vision. //We'd better get down there before his Sentinel Overprotective urges get out of hand and he kills someone.//

Jim snorted. //Yeah, 'Sentinel Whisperer,' we better get you down there.//

//Oh, shut up,// Blair sent good-naturedly. He moved toward the stairs, his lover following. As he passed through the fire door into the stairwell, he turned to his own Sentinel. //How are we going to break the news to Henri?//

Jim sighed sadly. //I don't think we'll have to. H. just got off the elevator...on the fourth floor.//

Speeding up in his descent, taking the stairs two at a time, Blair sent a wave of melancholy. //Sometimes Recognition sucks, man.//

Jim sped up as well. //Yeah. Sometimes it does.//
